SCVCEBC 2009 Show Rules

  3. All birds and cages will be checked for cleanliness.

  4. Any style flat-top cage of reasonable size will be permitted in the Junior and Pet Bird sections. Other birds shall be shown in standard cages. Only one bird per cage, except in the Pairs sections.

  5. No paper in the bottom of any cages except for the American Singer and Timbrado (song canary) divisions. Seed should cover the cage-bottom tray. Only plain water should be in standard cage drinkers or cups. Sanecil may be used where appropriate for large birds. Fruit eaters (e.g., Lories, Tanagers) are allowed nectar and sawdust on the bottom of their cages.

  6. Fasten all classification tags to the left front of the cage.

  7. No changes are allowed on tags except by the show committee.

  8. Exhibitors who are in doubt as to the proper classification of their birds may have them classified before judging begins by request to the show committee.

  9. The show committee reserves the right to add, combine or cancel classes or sections as entries dictate. If there are less than three entries in a section, the judge may withhold awards at his/her discretion.

  10. The show committee has the right to reject entries which do not meet a reasonable standard of health and cleanliness, or which do not conform to the classifications.

  11. All red factors are to be judged 50% for color and 50% for type; red dilutes are to be judged 40% for color, 30% for dilution, and 30% for type; non-red factor dilutes are to be judged 40% for type, and 60% for dilution.

  12. A lightly variegated bird shall be more light than dark. A heavily variegated bird shall be more dark than light.

  13. Hookbills will not be disqualified for having properly clipped wings in the Hookbill division, Pet Section.

  14. No Siskin-Canary F1 hybrids will be accepted in either the Canary or Finch divisions. No other bird species hybrids allowed.

  15. Exhibitors must not talk, or communicate in any way with the judges. Violation of this rule may justify disqualification of the exhibitor's entries.

  16. The decision of the judge is final.

  17. A novice has never won a first, second, or third place in any canary, finch, hookbill, or budgie section of an open show.

  18. Junior are exhibitors from 8 to 13 years of age. Junior exhibitors must be registered at the door. The Junior Division will include all categories of birds.

  19. Club members only are eligible for the perpetual Breeder of the Year trophy. Points for determining the winner are earned as follows:
    7 points for a First Grand Award in Division
    5 points for a Second Grand Award in Division
    3 points for a Third Grand Award in Division
    3 points for First in Section
    2 points for Second in Section
    1 points for Third in Section

    The member-exhibitor with the highest point total wins. In the case of a tie, the member with the most Firsts in section will be the winner. The trophy must be returned to the club the following year.

    Canaries must be bred and banded by the exhibitor to be eligible for the Breeder of the Year award.

  20. Exhibitors and members only may sell birds from the seller's table. There will be a $30.00 fee per space (½ table.) The show committee has the right to disallow overly crowded cages or birds that do not meet a reasonable standard of cleanliness and good health. Birds may be sold on Saturday only.

    Exhibitors have priority and may reserve 1 space with show preregistration, or at registration at the show on Friday night or Saturday morning. At end of registration (9 am on Saturday), club members who are not exhibitors may rent a space in order of request (which can be made before the show.) After all requests for one space have been filled, additional space may be rented by all. A waiting list for 2nd spaces will be maintained and filled in order of request. No refunds for cancellations.

  21. The SCVCEBC is not liable for the loss or damage to birds or equipment either during the show or in transport to or from the show.

  25. There is to be no smoking in any room of the exhibit hall at any time.
