Video-conferencing
Here's another new thing of the INTERNET: video (plus sound) in real time. There's a program, called Cu-SeeMe, that does video-conferencing. You can see the images of the other people, and listen to them. The images have only 16 levels of gray. If your Mac has a videocamera connected, you can transmit your image. If it doesn't, you can send sound or just text. The program may work (badly, and with a lot of sound problems) by a 28800 bps modem, because the ammount of data transfered is very high. Probably, you need a direct connection to the Internet.
To work with the program: use Cu-SeeMe to open a connection to a reflector (a server) and choose one channel. I won't explain more, because I can't use Cu-SeeMe, so I could be saying something wrong.
You can go to the Cu-SeeMe's site and read more information, and transfer the program as well.
Turn your Mac into a TV
Here's the newest real time audio and video technology. It's called VDOlive. Using this program, you can listen to an audio track and watch a movie, in real time, using a 28800 bps modem. The most amazing thing is that the VDOlive team guarantees between 10 and 15 frames per second, even with a 28800 bps modem!
Besides the modem, you need a really fast computer (like a PowerMac). To know more, go to the VDOlive's site. Here, you can transfer the program.
