Here are the things I use on a regular basis. Feel free to send me eMail if you need help with something. If I can't personally help you I will tell you where to go. . . to get help!
A little history: I have been programming for over 15 years. I have written hundreds of financial components, Order Entry systems, Purchase Order systems, Hair Salon systems, Credit Reporting systems, Real Estate purchasing systems, Auto Showroom marketing systems, Convalescent patient management systems, Cell Phone Service Provider Site Installation Tracking System, Sales Support Systems, EDI Systems using multiple data platforms, and much more.

I have worked for many companies some very small and some very large international corporations.  Some of you may be interested to know that I went to college (many times.)   I did finish many courses including a nursing course and practiced in So. California.  The last time I went to college I became interested in programming and have been programming ever since. I would have to say that I learned most of what I know through my real life experiences while working.  I enjoy it very much and like they say at the Emmy's, "I can't believe they pay me to do this."
My Programming Philosophy:  I believe that code should be written in tight modularized blocks that perform their functions as quickly as possible.  Many programmers today do not have any understanding of the underlying routines that do the real work.  Without this information, you can never be 100 percent responsible for optimizing the performance of your code.  This is what I learned in college.
What did I learn in the real world? I learned that you don't have to have a college degree to be a great programmer. It might help with spelling though. But, not necessarily your sense of humor. Programming is fun and rewarding. You don't have to be a genious but you do need to care about details.
Programming Tips:  Keep it simple stupid (KISS). Remember that if there is something you want to do, VB probably has a function to do it. Use Classes where possible. Think about how your forms would look on a Web Page. You may need to turn them into Applets or ActiveX controls.
The Tools I use: I use less and less third party tools as time goes on because MS includes so many good controls in VB. But one product that I think is cool for all around extra controls is BeCubed's VBTools(16bit) or BeCubed's OLETools(32bit ActiveX). I will let you hunt around for the perfect spreadsheet because they come in different size's and strengths. It just depends on the needs of your project as to which one you choose.  Sometimes a grid will suffice where some people will choose a spreadsheet.

Over the years I have written a lot of reusable Subs, Functions, Forms, Classes and tools. I use these first before I look for 3rd party products.
