IRISH SITES (top)

Attorney General's office - offers all Irish statutes from 1922 to 1997 on line, in a searchable database, plus statutory instruments. An invaluable resource - and it's free!

Competition Press - 500 searchable decisions of the Competition Authority of Ireland, plus articles on such topics as recent Irish mergers, the break-up of the Electricity Supply Board and the criminalising of anti-competitive behaviour.

Courts information homepage - courts home page of Irish Government Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform with links to justice, courts, publications, links and judgments (just one, dated January 1998, which you can't read unless you have Adobe Acrobat!) 

Courts Service website - the excellent home page of the new Irish Courts Service with the legal diary online, information about courts nationwide, links and an interactive map of the Four Courts. 

All about barrister Twinkle Egan's centralised European Convention causebook and judgment registry database.

IT law - Everything you always wanted to know about information technology law by barrister-couple Denis Kelleher and Karen Murray. Information on copyright, computer crime, data protection, e-commerce, Y2K and more...

Irish law pages - Irish list of the FindLaw site, with links to articles and information about Ireland.

IrishLaw site - one of the oldest and most comprehensive sources of Irish law on the Net. It includes the IrishLaw list, an e-mail discussion list on Irish and Northern Irish law, with a fully searchable index of all IrishLaw messages.

Law Library of Ireland - the home of Ireland's 1100 barristers, with limited information about the Irish court system, the barristers' code of conduct, how to qualify as a barrister, plus a few links to legal associations and legal research sites online.

Lawlink Ireland - includes Financial Times information, credit reports, personal and company judgments, on-line land registry and companies office searches and the Irish legal diary of upcoming court cases.

Law Society of Ireland - one of the best examples of how a site can change for the better. This site, which used to be embarrassingly outdated, is now up-to-date. It aims to inform the public about the work of Irish solicitors, and includes useful articles from the Law Society Gazette, as well as professional information for solicitors. And the feedback page now works!

Tomkins patent agents - information about patents, trade marks, design and copyright.

UK SITES (top)

Butterworths - amazingly comprehensive legal site, but VERY slow to download, not all the links work and you have to pay for much of the material. Worth a look, though.

Court Service of England and Wales - judgments of the Court of Appeal and lower courts, practice directions, court lists and other information.

Delia Venables' home page - an excellent list of links to legal pages throughout the world.

English Solicitors - Delia Venables' comprehensive list of solicitors in England.

ENPBA - the Employed and Non Practising Bar Association - a thorn in the side of the Bar Council of England and Wales!

House of Lords - judgments of the United Kingdom's final court of appeal, with a search facility.

JCLI index - Web journal of current legal issues, published by the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and linking to a coalition of online law journals. 

Law Commission of England and Wales - details of law being reviewed in the areas of common law, company and commercial law, criminal law, property and trust law and statute law, with full texts of recent publications.

LawRights - free advice on English and Welsh law, with excellent articles on topics like accident claims, adoption, consumer affairs, employment law, injunctions, legal aid and legal documents.

Legal Island - links to legal information sites in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Lord Chancellor's Department - the Lord Chancellor is responsible for the administration of justice in England and Wales. His site covers such topics as court management, the judiciary, legal aid and law reform.

Templeman Library - University of Kent's comprehensive list of world-wide legal links.

The Lawyer newspaper - access to current articles, searchable archives and legal jobs.

UK barristers - Sweet and Maxwell's links to UK and Irish barristers on line (56 and counting...)

UK law page - Daniel Jesudasen's impressive and attractive site, with all you ever needed to know about UK (and Irish) law.

UK legal resource page - articles, newsletters & legal resources from around the world, including UK trading standards, consumer advice and information, employment law, recent UK case law and free monthly webzine devoted to legal technology issues.

UK legal sites and resources - one of the best starting sites for law links. Comprehensive lists of information resources on almost every imaginable topic. Fast loading and well laid out. 
FOREIGN SITES (top)

Australasian Legal Information Institute - a great Aussie page, with over six gigabytes of raw text materials and over a million searchable documents. AustLII publishes primary legal materials (legislation, treaties and decisions of courts and tribunals) and secondary legal materials created by public bodies, such as law reform and royal commission reports. 

Australia Foundation Law - an initiative of the Law Foundation of New South Wales, with access to a wide range of Australian and international legal materials and the best legal Web sites to assist legal research. The Foundation operates a number of justice projects, and a legal access grants programme. 

Biddle Electronic Law Library of the University of Pennsylvania - a comprehensive list of foreign and international legal web sites.

Court Web Sites - US court-related sites, including State and Federal courts, and links to international court sites of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. (No links to Irish courts; wonder why not?)

Father's World web ring - resource centre for information about all types of fathers and fathering. 

FindLaw legal resources - comprehensive legal resources on line including law reviews, employment, legal organizations, law firms, US Supreme Court opinions, foreign and international legal links, legal practice materials and even message boards and chat...

Global Legal Information Network - an annotated hypertext guide to international legal materials prepared by the US Law Library of Congress and linking to government and legal information sources worldwide.

Hieros Gamos - comprehensive links to more than 50,000 legal and government URLs, with discussion groups, news resources, search facility and much more - in five languages!

Indiana University Law School - an astonishing variety of international legal resources. 

Law and Politics Internet Guide - One-stop source for legal research, with info on international law, legal resources, law journals and treaties - plus a search facility. 

Lawlounge - self-proclaimed largest independent online legal resource with sections on lawyers, news, topics, services and academia. 

Law Society of New South Wales - very useful series of articles on common legal problems, written by lawyers for non-lawyers.

Legal sites directory - Lebanese Lawyer Tony Maalouli's labour of love - a vast array of international legal links in English, French and Arabic.

Licking County Municipal Court - a good example of a local courthouse site from Newark, Ohio, with helpful details of court fees, court rules, forms and a daily court list.

Michael Schmieg's home page - home page of Mike Schmieg, a lawyer in Milford, Ohio. A self-confessed avid OS/2 user, his impressive set of links includes a wide range of US and non-US law sites.

NetLaw - transatlantic law page, a joint enterprise between an English barrister and US law firms. Very useful for information technology and intellectual property law - and lawyer jokes!

New Mexico Second District Court - virtual courthouse, with everything you always wanted to know about law in New Mexico. One day all courthouses will be like this!

Spotlight current legal events - the Mining Company guide to legal current events, including articles on immigration, copyright on the Internet, a question and answer forum from a group of host lawyers, the legal perspective on the Year 2000 Bug (Y2K) and a training webpage on sexual harassment! 

World Wide Legal Information Association - a non-profit corporation with but one mission: making legal information available to the world. Not just a catchy phrase, they say, but their corporate mission. And they make a good stab at it!
