RAIN RUNNING!
originally written around November 2000

I wrote before in my "background" story about the first time I'd ever run around nude outdoors during a very heavy rain. [cue "first rain running" flashback sequence...and....action!]

Another incredibly exhilarating time I spent was running around during a VERY heavy rain. It was a warm day and a warm rain, and I was slipping and slopping in the wet grass and mud. I never felt so alive! This was also the first time I left my clothes inside the house while being nude outdoors during the daytime. I left the back door (actually a side door) propped open so I could run out and back in with some cover from the street. And my mother wondered why the inside of the door was wet when she got home! I haven't enjoyed a rainy day nearly that much since then.

Well, I have had another wonderful rainy time. I should have written this down immediately, because now the memory is a little fuzzy. A month or two ago (I think it was sometime in August of 2000) I was on the computer, typing away online at night. After a while I realized that the sprinkle outside was increasing to a pretty good rain. I REALLY wanted to get outside in it, but also didn't want to be rude and run off on the people I was chatting with online. After a while, about 12:30 AM, the last person left the chat room I was in, so I immediately exited and turned off the computer. I grabbed my "just in case" shorts and brought them downstairs with me to leave on the back porch (actually a side porch). I didn't bring a flashlight with me, and was wearing nothing but my glasses. It was still raining pretty hard when I opened the back porch door and stepped out.....

WOW! The air was still quite warm and the rain was cool and felt so wonderful! It took only a few seconds to be wet enough and get used to the temperature of the water. Now it was time to have fun! There was a little fog and mist with the rain, making a noticeable haze as I jogged out to the street. The rain was really coming down now, and still felt so wonderful. There was no lightning and very little wind, only a moderate-to-heavy warm rain coming down.

By now my face was one great big smile that lasted until long after I got home and went inside to bed. I started jogging westbound down the street, towards the next intersection. Here's the part that helps to show it was so emotionally uplifting. I started doing something I'd never thought of doing before, and would feel stupid doing any other time. As I ran, I stretched my arms up over my head, reaching up towards the rain clouds, jumping as high as I could and twisting in circles as I ran down the street! I never felt so free, so ALIVE! The feeling of the rain as it splashed on me and ran down my body felt truly incredible.

[Memory's fuzzy here, don't remember if I really went this far...] As I neared the next intersection (with a streetlight) I turned around and started heading back. Thinking about it now, I should have just kept right on going. On the way back, as I neared a trail that I've mentioned before, I noticed that a car was approaching from the west and coming up behind me. I figured that this situation and my location near the trail was a prime opportunity to experiment with visibility, reactions, and public acceptance of nudity. Note that I don't in any way consider myself an exhibitionist, flasher, or streaker, just somebody who loves the natural freedom of being nude, especially outdoors.

As the car approached I began to jog the same direction so once they passed, I wouldn't be far from the trail. When they passed I could really see how much rain and fog was being lit up by their headlights. As soon as they were past I came to a stop, just in case they stopped too. They didn't touch the brakes or give any other noticeable reaction, so I continued to jog towards home. As I got a little further I realized that there was a chance they could turn around at the next intersection to the east of my yard. I was well past the trail and didn't have much cover off the side of the road, so when realizing this I began to sprint as fast as I could for home. Just as I got to my yard, sure enough the car turned into the next intersection and immediately came out again to go back the other way!

Well, by this time I was up into my yard, and having passed a row of large trees I tried to stop but slipped, falling face down in the muddy wet grass. I was laughing at this as they slowly drove past my yard. When they got a little ways down the road, near where they saw me, they put on the brakes and came nearly to a stop, looking for they mysterious naked jogger in the rainy night. Little did they know that they had already passed me. I was standing out in the street behind them, watching and laughing at all that's happened. The got down to the first intersection (the one to the west) and turned around to continue on in the direction they were going. It's fun to think about what they may have been thinking...."Was that a naked person running in the rain? Or dressed but appeared naked in the bad visibility? A hallucination from the beer?..."

Once they were gone and I was back standing in my front yard and the street, I was simply amazed at how wonderful the rainy night felt, and how incredible it was to be nude out in it. I wished so hard my girlfriend could have been there to join me and experience such an unbelievable night. I'm not sure but I probably was also thinking, as usual, how stupid the laws are to prohibit such innocent, fun, wonderful activity as this, or any nudist activity. Also during all this I realized that somehow, with all the jogging, running, and sprinting I had just done, I wasn't out of breath! I should point out that I'm not in all that great a shape, in fact have very little endurance for such activities and I get winded easily. But somehow, through the magic of the rainy night, I did all that and could easily do it again with little more than hard breathing. I can't explain it.

I also learned a few things. First, when it's warm outside and raining, get OFF the computer and get outside to enjoy it! Don't delay, just do it while you have the chance. Second, if you're going along the road while nude and a car passes, there are people in this town who will stop and/or turn around, though infrequent. I don't know if those people wanted to verify what they saw, laugh, harass, physically attack, preach about nudity and morals, or call the cops to report a naked jogger. No matter, I didn't feel like finding out. Third, a hazy rainy night does not guarantee that you won't be seen by cars passing by, or guarantee that they won't react when they see you.

Looking back, I wish I had thought to start earlier, stay out longer and go farther, maybe down to the park or even go for a bike ride. All in all, I'd have to say this was my best event ever of running nude in the rain. It was one of, if not the, best time I've ever spent outdoors at night. It is if counted only as local to home activities, because that moonlit skinnydipping in the summer of '99 was the best times I've ever spent enjoying naturism while away on my bike. I wish everybody could experience incredible times such as these. Freedom, exhilaration, getting in touch with nature and myself, realizing I don't need or belong in clothes, fun and innocence, true naturism....I'd use all these to define this night of running in the rain.

[Here is an excerpt from a forum post. It's in response to somebody commenting on using rain and low visibility as added cover and protection from harassment while nude outdoors.]

post in a forum, re: Nudity in the rain
subject: Rain isn't a guarantee.....

...but I do agree that it can help. Here's some recent experience I had with it (story condensed):

A couple months back at night it was raining pretty heavily. I got off the computer and headed outside nude. After a couple seconds to get used to the rain temperature, I was off jogging down the road. I got to the next intersection and turned around to head home. On the way back I saw headlights coming from behind me. I decided this was a good opportunity to test visibility, reactions, etc. of my being nude. I figured that the rain, as heavy as it was, would prevent them from seeing me at all until the last second.

I was jogging as they passed, and I came right to a stop to watch for brake lights. I saw no reaction so continued jogging home. I then realized they could turn around at the next intersection, and since I wasn't home or near the trail (now behind me), I didn't have much cover. I started sprinting for home (for some reason I run faster when barefoot and naked), and sure enough they turned around at the intersection. By this time I was back in my yard, and having slipped in the grass I was face down in the mud behind a tree as they passed slowly (I saw that it was not a cop, BTW). As they got near where they saw me they put on the brakes and went by there very slowly, never knowing they had already passed me. They turned around at the first intersection and went back the way they were going.

So all in all, if you're right along the road, a heavy rain doesn't guarantee non-reactions. That night was incredible and this description doesn't do it justice, so as soon as I get the longer version written I'll repost it here. I have had other nude-along-the-road experiences without rain, where cars continued past with no visible reaction. Strange...it's almost as if "naked person in the rain" is weird, yet "naked person on a dry night" is commonplace. lol
