Region 8 GIS Network
Memorandum of Understanding
- WHEREAS, the Regional Development Plan of Region 8 envisions Eastern
Visayas to be model of Information Technology;
- WHEREAS, there is a need to access spatially linked data and information
and to harmonize & enhance data collection by different agencies
and institutions in the region;
- WHEREAS, there is a need for standardized methods for data collection,
and processing for Geographic Information System (GIS) application;
- WHEREAS, there is a need to promote efficient and effective data and
information exchange thru-institutional collaboration and coordinated
planning and implementation; and
- WHEREAS, there is a need to promote GIS as a tool in data analysis
and in development planning;
Objective
- Develop mechanism to improve accessibility of data
- Link GIS facilities in promoting cooperation and data exchange of
member institutions
- Formulate mechanism to standardize methods for data
collection and processing for GIS applications
- Strengthen data and information management in Region 8
- Assist needs of network members in developing programs and projects
for the sustainable development of Region 8
- Develop a core of trainers who will extend assistance to network members
- Forge linkages with international and national research
organization to enhance the network’s sources and data
- Help promote inclusion of GIS in academic courses at SCUs
- Develop qualified GIS manpower
