Objectives
- Establish a GIS at (UPTC) and offer services to process
& analize data and produce maps
- Provide venues for integrative, collaborative efforts
among the GOs, LGUs, NGOs, POs and academic institutions in resource
management
- Assist local communities / LGUs and other agencies
in formulating and implementing strategic development plans in their
respective area
- Assist the implementation of habitat rehabilitation
measures in their respective areas
- Raise community awareness on environment issues &
concerns through environment education programs
- Empower communities to enhance capabilities to protect
and manage their resources
Strategies
Resource and Ecological Data Gathering
- Secondary data of the different bays and coastal areas
in the region, i.e. Guiuan, San Pedro Bay, Ormaoc Bay, Carigara Bay
& Sogod Bay
- Acquisition of other information, e.g. land use, forest
areas etc. from different institutions
- Topographic Maps
- Satellite images & ground truthin
- Aerial photos
Education & Training
- Seminars & trainings on data gathering
- Seminars on understanding and utilizing GIS
- Developing GIS training modules
- Developing course modules for students
Capability Building
Assisting LGUs, Government Agencies, NGOs,
and other institutions
in
- planning and developing programs and projects using
GIS
- institutionalizing resource management
- developing and implementing environmental rehabilitation
program
- developing and implementing environmental education
program
Linkaging & Networking
- Involving other organizations and agencies both as
data and information providers and users of the REIS through consultative
meeting and workshops & personal consultation
- Cooperate with other GIS users to coordinate the activities
in terms of data gathering, data encoding, digitizing & cost sharing
of satellite images and aerial photos
