Brian Jacques (pronounced 'Jakes') is the author of the well liked Redwall Series. Jacques was born in and still lives in Liverpool, England. Eight of Brian Jacques' 'Redwall' books have been published since 1986. They are epic adventures
set among woodland creatures in medieval times in and around an abbey called Redwall, home of a
community of peace-loving mice, and have sold over a million copies worldwide. Redwall's heroes
and heroines are little mice, hedgehogs, squirrels and moles. The villains are rats; the most
monstrous of all is Cluny, who wears a long cloak made of batwings.
Redwall Abbey was built out of sandstone from a nearby
quarry. The walls of the Abbey are a reddish grey and gives the abbey its name. Redwall was built by the first creatures, who included Martin the Warrior and Abbess Germaine, who came to Mossflower from Loamhedge.
