This part is just getting started, but I've got a great tool for you to start out with! AP MenuOverviewThe AP Menu is a simple text file that you download and click on. This adds several keys to your Windows 95/98/NT registry that in turn add a menu item named AnswerPoint to your FP Toolbar. On this item are two of the most used GeoCities tools, the GeoGuide and GeoCounter. Because of the exact formatting requirements of those GeoTools, it can be difficult to insert them properly in a web page and still recognize where they are in the FrontPage Editor. Using this option takes advantage of the FrontPage Components feature of FrontPage, and displays a placeholder graphic in the Editor that allows you to format your page properly, plus make finding it easier later on when you come back to edit the page. Here's an example of what the menu looks like in the FrontPage editor: Installing AP MenuInstalling the menu on your computer is a simple process:
That's all there is to it! Using AP MenuThis is the easiest part! Insert GeoGuide This does exactly what the name implies. When you select this menu option, a GeoGuide will be inserted into your page at the place where the cursor is located. Inside the FrontPage Editor, the GeoGuide will show up like this: By default, the GeoGuide will be centered on your page. When you save the page and upload it to GeoCities, the image you see above will be replaced by the actual live GeoGuide. For more information on the GeoGuide, how to join the GeoGuide Banner Exchange program and how to create a banner for your site if you don't already have one, visit http://www.bannercreator.nu/geohelp.html Insert GeoCounterExactly like the GeoGuide option, but puts a GeoCounter on your page, instead. In the Editor it will be displayed like this: If you have problems with the counter not incrementing when people visit multiple pages on your site, you will need to add a page number to the code that calls the GeoCounter on your page. To do this, just follow these 3 simple steps:
The actual numbers don't matter to the counter program - they are only there to "fool" the browser of your visitor into requesting the counter image for each page, instead of possibly pulling an old copy of "/cgi-bin/counter" from it's cache.
