What is it?
- Hyper Terminal is a program used for communications, it cannot be used for
the internet, because it does not use TCP/IP, but it is great for testing
modems!
Do I have it?
- Most computers come with Hyper Terminal already installed. It is commonly
located here: Start, Programs, Accessories, Hyper Terminal
Windows 98: Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, Hyper
Terminal
- If you do not see it there, you can try to find it by doing this: Start,
Find, Files or Folders, in the Named
type in Hypertrm.exe, in the Look In:
Click on the [v] and select My Computer, make sure it
has a check mark in [x] Include Subfolders, click on Find
Now. if it IS found great, you might want to Right-Click
on it and select Create a Shortcut, then click on Yes
(you would like to place it on your desktop)
- If you did not find it in either of the above, do this: Start,
Settings, Control Panel. Double-Click on Add/Remove Programs,
then Windows Setup. Highlight the Communications,
then click on Details. in there you will see Hyper
Terminal, Check it, and click on OK, then OK
again. After it is finished, Restart your computer
How do I use it?
- Double-Click on Hypertrm.exe (looks like a monitor and phone
connected) where it says Name type Test
and press OK. Enter the Access Number for your
ISP (note: do not disable call waiting *70, or whatever), press OK.
Next, make sure everything looks ok, and press Dial.
- If you were disconnected (not busy, but just said
disconnected) You're modem may be having a problem, as well if you got Line
Noise (bunch of weird looking characters) could be a problem with your
modem, phone line or access number you are dialing
- If you got connected and it said "username" or
something to that effect, then your modem is just fine.
- Exit, and don't save
