Thoughts Of The Daycollected sayings from Ann Landers, Dear Abby and the like Is it love or infatuation? Infatuation is fleeting desireone set of glands calling to another. It is marked by a feeling of insecurity. You are excited and eager but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and pieces about the relationship that you would just as soon not examine too closely. It might spoil the dream. Love is a friendship that has caught fire. It takes root and grows, one day at a time. Love is quiet understanding and mature acceptance of imperfection. It is real. It gives you strength and grows beyond youto bolster your beloved. You are warmed by his presence, even when he is away. Miles do not separate you. You have so many wonderful films in your head that you keep replaying. But near or far, you know he is yours, and you can wait. Infatuation says, "We must get married right away. I cant risk losing him." Love says, "Be patient. Dont panic. Plan your future with confidence." Infatuation has an element of sexual excitement. Whenever you are together, you hope it will end in intimacy. Love is not based on sex. It is the maturation of friendship that makes sex so much sweeter. You must be friends before you can be lovers. Infatuation lacks confidence. When hes away, you wonder if hes being unfaithful. Sometimes, you check. Love means trust. You are calm, secure and unthreatened. He feels your trust, and it makes him even more trustworthy. Infatuation might lead you to do things you will regret, but love never steers you in the wrong direction. Love is elevating. It lifts you up. It makes you look up. It makes you better than you were before. Never give anyone an ultimatum unless you are prepared to lose. Methodism's founder, Joen Wesley, believed that song and prayer were entwined, and in 1761 he instructed his flock to "sing lustily and with a good courage. Beware of singing as if you were hald dead or half asleep.... Do not bawl.... Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing." And so they do at Salem. "To read or not to read - it's an individual choice. People who want to study, will study...but it's also an individual choice to regret or not to regret...later on." --Maetel, "Galaxy Express 999" "A sword is a weapon. Kenjutsu is the art of killing. Whatever pretty words you use to speak of it, this is its true nature. What Miss Kaoru says are the words of one who has never dirtied her hands. An idealistic joke...... But, I like Miss Kaoru’s idealism better than its true nature. If one can ask so much, I want the world to accept this joke as its true nature." Clarification: Kenjutsu is sword fighting. Kenshin was refferring that he would rather sword fighting be used to protect rather than to kill, which is Kaoru's style of Budo. "Grace is what God gives us when we don’t deserve and mercy is when God doesn’t give us what we do deserve." "The perimeter sensors are picking up subspace oscillations. What the hell does that mean?" --Major Kira Nerys, DS9 "You might not be interested in war, but war's interested in you." --Leon Trotsky "We're told cars cause pollution. A hundred years ago city streets were ankle deep in horse excrement. What kind of pollution do you want? Would you rather die of cancer at eighty or typhoid fever at nine?" --PJ O'Rourke, in response to people who claim technological progress has made the Earth a less hospitable place. |
