What you real connection speed? Do you connect at 56K? No you don't, you can't, but more about that later, but just how fast do you connect? There is just a ton of things that will cause your connection to be slower than you hope it could be. Rather than reconstruct the tons of information about modems, here are some of the best links available.
You can get a reasonable check of your modem speed at Toast.net or MSN Computing Central. Remember that download speed has lots of factors. Are you the only one on line? What time of day is it? They all play into the mix. Want to read more, check out the Bandwidth forum at MSN moderated by Peter Harrison or check out Curt's Modem Page.
Web Publishing.....using WP to create your web pages
Fixing spelling errors in your personal dictionary.....what to do when you add a misspelled word to the dictionary
If you need to create Web documents for your Web site, check out WordPerfect's Internet Publisher. You won't have to learn anything about HTML code at all. Internet Publisher lets you save your documents as Web files and convert your existing documents into the format necessary to be read by web browsers.
Choose File, Internet Publisher, from the WordPerfect menu. When prompted, choose New Web Document, Select in the resulting dialog box. You're now looking at the blank page as it will be viewed as a Web document. Click through the menus and notice that some of the common WordPerfect tools have been replaced by Web-related siblings. Also note the new toolbar containing Web tools. With those exceptions, the editing environment should be very familiar. By default, Internet Publisher chooses a gray background for your Web page; you'll probably want to change that, so it isn't as drab. Right-click the document window and choose Properties from the context menu. Click the Text/Background Colors tab. Under Background, click the Background Color button and select the color of your choice. White is standard, but since we're just practicing, you can be bold and try something dramatic, like black or red.
While we've got the properties sheet open, let's choose our text colors too. Under Text Color, click the Regular Text button and pick a color for your text (make sure it shows up on your background color, you want your Web page to be readable). This is also the place where you can set the colors for your hyper links. Click OK to apply the color changes. Now type:
Publishing documents to the Web with WordPerfect
To preview our page in a browser, click the View In Web Browser button on the toolbar. WordPerfect creates a temporary HTML page and displays it in your default Internet browser. This is what everyone else will see when you post the final file to your Web site. Switch back to WordPerfect and let's save the file in HTML format.
Click the Publish To HTML button on the toolbar. Type the full path and filename of the file, taking care to use an .html or .htm file extension (e.g., C:\Myfiles\Webpage.html). Finally, click Publish. That's it! The file you just saved can be uploaded to your Web server for viewing on the World Wide Web.
WordPerfect 9 also comes with another product called Trellix. The packaged product is a lite version, the newest full feature version is TrellixWeb 2.7 (which this site was built with). TrellixWeb also comes with a built in publisher to push your site up to the host server. WP 9 has the ability to save any document in Trellix format. Trellix can then take the file(s) and add a bunch of easy to do site building techniques to build a complete site.
Your cruising through your document, adding all those new medical, legal or business jargon terms that aren't in the dictionary. All of a sudden you realize you just added a word that was really misspelled..... now what? Not to worry, all is not lost. Open the Spell Checker (Tools....Spell Checker). You'll get a message that spell check is complete, do you want to close spell checker? Answer no. On the right side of the window, click on Options..... User Word List. Another window opens with all of the words you have added. Locate the mistake and delete it. If you want to reenter it or any other words (or phrases), enter the word in the text box the way you normally misspell it. In the replace box, enter the corrected spelling. Be sure to click on the Add Entry button for each entry you make. Click on the close button to close each of the two spell checker windows to return to the WP document screen.
