System (NFS) and Network Information Service (NIS).

Each application shares a common library of subroutines that
it can call at runtime. This saves up hard disk space.
GNU software support
Linux can run a wide collection of free software available
through the GNU project. Software includes application developments
( GNU C and GNU C++ ) , system administration (gawk, groff
and etc ) and games (GNU Chess , etc).
Compatility with the IEEE POSIX.1 standard
Linux supports many of the standards set forth for all UNIX
systems.
