It
has been claimed that one can never look directly at the sun
nor at one's own death. And yet, throughout the history of
mankind, both have been the enduring themes of myth and religion,
science and magic, curiosity and fear. Death the unsolved
mystery falls onto every living thing on this planet. There
is no way one can escape from this natural cycle of life.
Death is not a decision but a fate everyone faces in reality.
In order to end this life in a better way, a living will has
moral good to the society but no one has the right to decide
when to die or how to die.
What is a living will? A living will is a written document
in which one set out their wishes for health care in the event
that, some time in the future, one is unable to consent to
treatment. Living wills deal with health care. They do not
deal with property or assets. If one is not competent for
whatever reason one must rely on others to make decisions
for them. A living will can help the decision-maker to understand
ones wishes concerning their health care. It also may ease
the emotional burden from family members or ones proxy if
they have to make decisions about ones health. Many families
consider a living will morally binding especially if one have
discussed it with them beforehand.
Recently, the practice of mercy killing or known as Euthanasia
has become one among the hottest debate issues around the
globe. It is believed that the right to die is decided by
the patient himself. Practices of Euthanasia have been legalize
in a few countries but not all countries agree to the content
of mercy killing. Euthanasia is performed by physician to
help patients to ease the pain and suffering one is going
through. It is only perform when the physician is much determined
that the patient’s suffering is unbearable and without hope
of remission. In addition, the patient must freely, lucidly
and repeatedly express the decision to die. Then, the physician
final decision can be made only after consultation with a
second physician and patient’s family.
A newborn baby is the best thing that ever happens to every
new parent. It symbolizes a new life, a new hope and a new
soul that has just entered into the realm of life. Life is
a gift from God Himself. No one has the right to decide the
time one should be dead. In the Bible, one of the Ten Commandments
has stated “ Thou shall not kill”. It is a commandment for
every single human being to obey. If murdering or killing
someone is considered a crime, should Euthanasia not considered
as a crime too? This also includes the growing numbers of
the issue suicide in today’s society. The question here is
who decides one’s life to come to an end? The answer I would
believe is no one except God the creator of all things. On
the context of a patient suffering is unbearable, physician
may perform mercy killing is not logical. How much is unbearable?
Human beings can never put themselves in another state of
another person. What one feels is not exactly what another
feels. So, how could a physician feel the condition of pain
and suffering that the patient is going through. After all,
how much is suffering really considered has not been define
precisely by anyone. How could a patient freely, lucidly and
repeatedly expresses to die? In this case, the possibility
is that the patient maybe must have being in the state of
mentally incapacitated.
In closing, living is not by chance or by privilege. God created
everything from the stars to the moon and so did He give life.
It is logical to believe that He has the right to put an end
to everyone’s life, as he is the creator. He holds the key
to every single soul in life. Life and death, the difference
is a lot!
