Welcome to my web page
My name is Darren Franklin, and I am a proud parent of Emma, and husband of Jayne.
I am programmer and development manager by profession, I enjoy doing each, but programming is the most fun :-). I primarily develop MS Windows applications and libraries using MFC and Visual C++. In the past I used Borland C++ and the Windows SDK to develop a number of applications, this is more fun but a lot more work!

My interests include:
- I have been learning about programming Palm application since the start of 2000, click on the PalmPilot button on the top of the page to see the fruits of my labours.
- Computer games, mostly 3D first person games, e.g. Unreal and Half-Life are great! Although Diablo was cool as well.
- Golf, my best score was a 74 in a company tournament several years ago, since then I am a little out of practice though :-)
- Reading, these include:
- Technical magazines on programming, e.g. Dr Dobbs Journal, etc.
- Science fiction novels; William Gibson, Heinlein, Asimov, Frank Herbert, Bruce Sterling, Steven Kings Gunslinger novels, etc.
- Fantasy novels; Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, etc.
- Humour novels; Terry Pratchett (ok so he is here twice, but the discworld book are great), Douglas Adams, etc.
- Programming books, I taught myself Palm programming, and I am currently learning Java.
- Music, I play the electric and acoustic guitar. I was once in a company band, and I must say that there is nothing like playing in front of 100+ people to scare the hell out of you!!!
- Oh, and did I mention I have a daughter, which means I don't have much time for any of the above :-)
