My Summer Vacation '97

This summer went by really fast (as usual). It seems that you can never have a long enough summer vacation away from school. For the four months, I was pretty busy with my two jobs. I had a full-time position at Alberta Blue Cross and a part-time position at Superstore.

I did, however, have an enjoyable summer. For starters, I played intramural softball for the HUB team. Although we didn't win any games, it was still pretty fun to get out and play ball as a team. When the weather cooperated, I would take out the 'ol rollerblades and cruise the pathways. If I wasn't in the in-line skating mood, I would bike instead. This year, I also played some tennis with friends. Oh yeah, I almost forget to mention the nasty G-word. That's right -- Golf. After putting the game aside for a good 7 years, I decided to try my luck with my 'ol woods and irons. What a mistake!! I was pretty pitiful. Oh well, I guess I know what I'll be doing next summer.

Apart from the usual physical activities to keep me fit, I would check out the latest movies or catch some of the older flicks as well. Since Superstore kept me busy several nights a week, I would often have to juggle my time and energy around to keep up my sanity. Even though there wasn't a lot of time for socializing with friends/classmates, it was still quality time with them.

Since home (Calgary) was only 3 hours away, I was very fortunate to make trips to visit my family and friends. The thing that really made my summer was the quality time I spent with my Dad. My Dad really enjoys fishing (and so do I). So this summer we decided to go fishing despite the 300 Km distance separating us. To make things easy, we would meet halfway to fish at the Red Deer River. We caught our fair share of whitefish. Once again, we are victorious in the man vs nature (vertebrate vs invertebrate, non-slimy vs slimy) battle!
