Bio

David Michael Maeschen

I was born and raised in South Dakota where I read the local library.  I attended the University of Chicago as a National Merit Scholar, and received an AB Physics in 1980. In college I learned how to learn and have pursued a course of self study ever since. I also learned there is too much to know, so being selective with knowledge and knowing how or where to find the answer becomes increasingly important. After college I moved to Southern California.  The first decade I worked in defense research. I spent five years in physical oceanography and hydrodynamics and another five years in electromagnetics, radar to xray. My work covered analysis, modeling, and simulation, of sensors, scattering, and systems, as well as extensive computer graphics, display, plotter, printer, and scanner programming, for scientific visualization. It also included presentations, proposals, and writing. With the reductions in defense, I moved into the commercial sector.

The next decade I worked in software engineering for manufacturers. I worked in the printing industry in the areas of PostScript rasterizers and printer drivers before ending up directly in the computer industry in enterprise and systems administration software, including network and internet software. I run my own computer consulting business - Ascendant Enlightenment, Software Architecture, Design, and Engineering, Thought Transcending Thought. I hope to develop my interests in art, architecture, design, math, and science with it as my career has left me with little time to pursue other interests. I have been a member of AAAS, IEEE, and MAA.

A physics and mathematics background provides me with an adaptability for diverse tasks. I am abstract, analytical, creative, curious, and achievement oriented.. I excel at identifying opportunities, researching technologies, analyzing strategies, evaluating ideas, and developing solutions. I enjoy interests in cognitive science, natural language processing, computer languages, multithreading, multiprocessing, distributed fault tolerant real time systems, and network and internet technologies. Above all, I prefer a view with a perspective to the horizon and a vision of things accomplished.
