The neighborhood around Ting's parents' house. |
Breakfast the first morning! Mmmmmm.... Ting's mom is
a GREAT cook! |
Yes, Derek does dishes!!! Derek is my roommate and was on his way
back home to Malaysia with his girlfriend Shannon. They were on the
same flight with Ting and me and spent a day and night in Singapore with
us. |
Ice kachan--the best way to beat Singapore's heat and humidity!
It is shaved ice flavored with tripical fruits and fruit juices.
They typically ran 50 to 75 cents (in U.S. dollars) and was SO delicious! |
The view of Singapore's roads from the second level of a double-decker

Eating a mysterious dish at a hawker centre. "What is it?"
I asked. "Just try it!" they replied. Turns out it was
octopus, pineapple, and pork (I think). |
Waiting for the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit). The MRT is a great way
to get around Singapore. It is fast, air conditioned (important!)
and very inexpensive--just $1.70 SG (about $1 U.S.) to go from one side
of the island to the other. Fares are based on distance, so it is
usually less than a dollar to get where you want to go. |

Ting and her buddy Presilla. This was at a great dinner we had the
first night at the hawkre's centre near the financial district along the

Singapore's Chinatown, all decked out for the upcoming Lunar New Year.
What? Singapore has a Chinatown??? Yes, it seems strange
for a country that is nearly 80% ethnic Chinese, but it is true! |
Me eating sattay. Yummy!!!
|
Ting and her friend Lisa chowing down.
|
This girl was so cute that I had to buy a watch from her! She grabbed
my hand and started putting different watches on my wrist. How could
I resist??? :-) They had a good sale going on though. Really!
It was just $69 SG (about $40 US)--and no sales tax! |
Me eating something somewhere in Singapore... And there's the watch
I bought! |
The Merlion--the symbol of Singapore. This is along the Singapore
river, with the tall buildings of Singapore's financial district in the
background. |
