The Palmer Building/Legoland Emergency Center

The Palmer Building

The Palmer Building originated as the First Legoland Fire Company Building. When the new fire station was built in 1988, the old station was converted into a commercial and industrial complex, now called the Palmer Building, which included offices, retail stores, and KMLL, Metrolegoland's own radio station. The complex thrived, and its combination of a romanesque fire station with modern accents made it quite eclectic.

By 1993, though, the building was in quite a disrepair. Marchel, aka the Legoland Construction Company, and KMLL had moved to the new Eckert Industries Building, and the retail stores had moved to Upper Metrolegoland. The Palmer Building was essentially empty. To remedy the situation, the private owner sold the building and the surrounding land to the Legoland County Government for redevelopment.

The Legoland County Government razed the old building and built the new Palmer Building to house the Legoland Fire Company and the Legoland Police Department. The new building resembles the older building in subtle ways, but the construction is all new and much bigger than the edifice which it replaced.

Since Lower Metrolegoland was disassembled, the Palmer Building was removed from the city. It is displayed on a shelf near the current city, and hopefully will rejoin the rest of the city one day.

Back to Lower Metrolegoland.
