by Steve Martin
Who:

Cast and Crew
When:
April, 2002
The Story:
Imagine, if you will, two of the great minds of the twentieth century,
Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein, together in a bar in Paris, 1904. On
that evening, they would change the direction of the future. Comedian
and actor Steve Martin did imagine it in this hilarious, but thought provoking
comedy.
Picasso was still a realistic painter and Einstein a patent clerk when
their fictitious encounter occurred, at the Lapin Agile, which still operates
as a cabaret to this day. Picasso's forays into abstract art and Einstein's
theory of relativity are spurred by the events that happened on this evening
when they are visited by a guest from the future (who does not want anyone
to step on his blue suede shoes) who gives them the advice they need to
change the world.
The play is a hilarious blend of wacky physical comedy, bad puns, amazingly
witty dialogue, and jokes about physics and art. Think the Marx Brothers
crossed with Bill Nye: The Science Guy.
