Dear Anna,
How can we help? Financially I can give a little
via my brother in Manila.
Also, remember Ms. Leticia P. Cortes? She is my
cousin, and her sister
Nelia is still with the UP college of medicine aside
from being head of the
National Poison Control. I am sure I can convince
them to pitch in
specially medical services if needed.
Thanks...
Butch

Thank you very much.
For financial help, the most efficient way is to deposit directly to her peso savings account at any BPI branch.

Dear Ana,
Just had a long conversation with Ms. Cruz... thank you
for giving me her
telephone number. By the way, is there any way
you can Email me a small jpg
photo of her. I remember her, but I cannot picture
her in my mind. I also
am sending you a photo of my family... just in case you
have a laptop and
can show it to her. It was so nice talking to her.
Taken last Christmas... the baby Frangelica, aka Frankie
4 is in the arms of
TR (Thomas Robert O'Neill, III) our eldest at 21 and
Sean at 19 is beside
him. My wife is Angeles Papa aka Geling (Heling)
and is 18 yrs old, and
then there is myfatself. Have since lost weight...
If we look short it is
because TR is 6'4", and Sean 6'1". What else???
if the boys look like they
have been partying a lot, it is because they have...
All the best to you and yours...

Hello, Wilma!
I don't know if you even remember me. This is Ed
Sayson, brother of Bob
Sayson..........class of '66....one year behind you.
You are the only
Prepian from class of '65 that I can even remember.
I saw your email on
Manny Canillas' Broadcast emails regarding Miss Cruz,
and I was glad to
hear you are still alive. Several of my classmates
from class of '66 have
already left this lifetime, so I am always glad to see
who is still alive.
What have you been up to?
I left the country in 1971 to study in the US. Got
my MBA and never came
back. Became a US citizen sometime in mid 1970s.
I have lived in Los
Angeles, Honolulu, and now in the San Francisco Bay area.
I've managed
several trips back to Manila since then. In fact,
in July of last year, I
was actually invited by BusinessWorld in Manila to speak
at an Internet
Conference at the Dusit Hotel in Makati. I stayed
for about 10 days, and
couldn't even think of who to look up from UP Prep.
I did run into Boo
Chanco, who is now a reporter for one of the daily newspapers
there. Last
month, Manny Canillas started circulating an open invitation
to all known
Prepians from class of '66, to connect vie email......and
possibly shoot
for a re-union in year 2000. So, when I got th
emails about Miss Cruz, and
saw your name, I was tickled.
Write back if you have time.

Dear Ed,
What a pleasant surprise!!! I too was tickled pink when
I received your
e-mail. Of course, I remember you and very well, at that.
Though, I could
not seem to remember your brother Bob ( ....just a joke,
of course). Just
like your reaction when you saw my name in the e-mail
rally for Miss Cruz,
my attention was likewise caught when I saw your name
and that
of Bob in the list of Prepian 66 contacted by Manny Canillas.
Memories of
a Student Theatre party held in your beautiful house
in Forbes Park
immediately flashed to my mind. I bet you can not even
remember
this ( 30 + years ago) and honestly, it was also
quite a feat for me.
Our Prepian batch tease each other that at this menopausal
age,
we all seem to be afflicted with the Alzheimer's disease
( see, I cannot
even remember the spelling that I had to look it up in
the dictionary).
But imagining the joy in your face when you wrote that
you are so
glad to find out that I am still alive, I can only thankfully
philosophize-----better amnesiac than dead!! .
What have I been up to? Nothing colorful really. I live
a very stereotyped
life---married, with kids, keeping a supposed-to-be 8
hour a day, 5 days a
week job, find joy in family and friends, and continue
to be God-believing
though not necessarily religious.
I would not say it is a boring nor sedate life though.
My 2 children ( both
sons) are in the difficult age - going 20 and 17
years old and when I see
them talking on the phone for hours--I perennially entertain
doubts as to
whether they have a girlfriend and will marry soon.
My husband of
21 years (coincidentally, he is also nicknamed Ed) has
a small
construction company . He manages to keep fit with golf
and
tennis (in contrast to the asthmatic me) but always
I ask how soon before he completely loses his hair or
develop that
unsightly bulging middle. I have a very exciting
career.
For the past 23 years, I have been working in Petron
Corporation which is
one of the country's largest companies ( sometimes no.1
but always in the
top 5 ). It is engaged in oil refining and marketing.
My current
assignment is as head of the Treasury Department and
also as treasurer
of some of its subsidiaries. My job takes me to a lot
of foreign travels
but in the U.S. , it is usually New York and if my amnesia
does not serve
me right, the last time I was in San Francisco was in
1990. In case, I
will have the chance to go there, I will let you know. The
travels and the
responsibilities have been quite hectic especially during
periods of
financial and economic crisis as the country has been
experiencing in the
recent past. So the question --am I able to balance family
and career?
---has been bugging me.
I posed the above nagging questions just to dramatize
the point that life
has indeed been exciting. But before you get the impression
that
I must be a nervous wreck by now trying to find the answer
to these,
you are dead wrong. It is because I have never been one
to take life
so seriously . I have successfully managed to laugh a
lot and I enjoy
giving original and canned jokes. In fact I have been
lamenting ( again, in
jest) that while I have been writing speeches for my
bosses which get
delivered in fora here and abroad ( not that I am good
but perhaps,
Mrs Tintero had an influence in me ), it is the
comedy scripts that I
have written for company parties and special events
that are my
claim to fame and popularity in the office. I also keep
happy and young by associating a lot with my Prepian
classmates who find
every little excuse to have a reunion. The daughter of
our classmates Pat
and Franklin Mangonon describes us "as being caught in
a time warp" when
she wrote about us in her newspaper column. By the way,
our class maintains
a website and if you want to participate in that
carefree high school
feeling that is our elixir of youth , visit it at:
http://www.interlog.com/~nagarcia/magarcia/home.
I know that I am the only one in our class that you remember
( I should say
, a worse case of amnesia which is foreboding considering
that you are
younger than us) but just the same ,reading the contents
of our webpage is
guaranteed to bring a nostalgic feeling and a longing
for the good old days
at Padre Faura regardless of the batch that you belong
to.
This e-mail has become too long for a starter but should
give you a sense
of my excitement and appreciation for your taking time
out to exchange "how
I am glad you are still alive and so am I " greetings.
Do tell me more
about yourself and your "happenings". And I hope you
can find the time to
browse our webpage.
Wilma
Prep '66 and '65 will have a joint reunion in the Philippines in the year 2000!
