I'm the type
of cook that's not afraid of recipe substitutions. Last week I wanted to
make an apple pie, but didn't have all the ingredients. Did this mean a
special trip to the store?! No. I merely substituted crushed chalk for
flour. I was also out of shortening, but found Vaseline was the perfect
substitution. When I noticed I had no apples I simply cut up a few hot
dogs into apple slice shapes. Then I melted a popcicle for sugar and crushed
a few corn chips for a topping and baked. The results? Well when I served
it to my guests with shaving cream and a pot of vinegar that evening, no
one seemed the wiser!
