Mumia

Mumia, Mumia

(5.30.98)

I.

A thin creamy smile looks down
From the night's sky.
Its crescent shaped shine
Hangs there like a sick omen,
Seen, but misunderstood.
Piercing and dripping blood,
Emotions awash in a flood
As it moves along the night's sky.

II.

Soon, the smile will disappear
Into the darkness
Bringing nearer our fear
That one of our warrior/heroes
Will be lost to Babylon's dark void.
How will or lives be?
Will we drown in a
Deep sea of calamity?

III.

Mumia, Mumia
One of us, born to us
Raised like a mighty tree
Over looking African plains
Yet seeing all humanity.
Mumia, Mumia
Speaking from us, to us
Capturing our spirits and pains,
Our desires to be free
To rid the earth of this enemy.
Mumia, Mumia
Dread-locked, righteous,
Dark skinned warrior
We need you at your post.
Part of our mix
A giant hurricane forming
On deep ocean's volcanic floors,
Waiting to exhale violently, cleansingly
On ameriKKKa's shores.
Mumia, Mumia
One of us, as we are you
Concentrating our treatment
At the feet of Babylon's Tower
Your whip-scarred back
Stands straight, ripples with power
In this high moon, dangerous hour.
Mumia, Mumia
Seeing how tall you stand
Now it is our time to soar
And shake the earth with our roar.

IV.

The crescent shine has turned full,
As another cycle begins
And moves stealthfully thru the night's sky.
Our emotions though, no longer a sigh
Or a lonely shout at the seasons.
A cool summer breeze brings on our embraces.
Even though we are of different races,
We are filling those lonely, empty spaces.

V.

From everywhere we come
All people under the sun.
As varied as fingerprints,
As diverse as Mother's tongues.
We dare, then stare into Babylon's darkness.
In our hearts we over come our fears,
While ore night skies Time looks hard on us all.
Will we soar and stop the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal?
