Diary 7

2-01-98

I finally got my scanner back online! I have been waiting months, hell, years for this. I bought it a couple years ago for about $400.00....it's nice, a flatbed scanner, Mustek. Well, I had to add 80 Megs of RAM to my hard drive just to get it working, and the program crashed at the slightest provocation, never mind how long it took to get it to complete the simplest of tasks.

My hard-drive got destroyed by a virus this summer, and I had to get a new one installed....all I allowed on it was Windows 5.1 (yes, the old Windows. Windows 95 is shitty)and WordPerfect 6.0. So my memory is clean. I installed the programming for the scanner and mmmmmm....that baby zooms! I spent all evening scanning pictures for the Über Alles Website. I even scanned one for this site, although I'm damned if I know where to put it. Über Alles is going to have artwork now!

I'm really starting to get frightened by this beanie-baby craze. I bought one from the gift shop at work on Friday, and was carrying it around when we went shopping today. This woman spotted it and asked me in a frantic voice, "Is someone around here selling beanie babies?" I replied that I didn't think so, I was merely bringing this around. She said, "I've never seen that one before. Do you want to sell it?" How weird can you get? They're stuffed animals filled with plastic pellets instead of something normal like cotton. They're not especially cute. In fact, most of them look deformed. What's the attraction?

This is the second time in a row that Dirk has woken up obscenely late.....I'm starting to wonder if it might be his way of hinting that he's sick of my shit. I've made it clear that it really bothers me when he does this, especially considering the fact that we see much less of each other since I started school than we did before. It cuts into our time together. And most of the time, he acts like it's my problem, not his. I really don't know how to handle this, because I don't want him to start thinking I'm nagging him. At the same time, I consider it a serious problem when someone still hasn't woken up an hour after they promised they'd be at your place and they make a habit out of it.
