today was amazing. The Wind
and Rain. Whoa. Wild weather. The wind was throwing rain every which way,
blowing debris off the top of buildings, and mauling every umbrella in
its path. This afternoon, the campus looked like the battlefield after
a particularly violent war between umbrella factions. It was kinda funny
though. Dead brollies everywhere, inverted, broken, spiny skeletons sticking
through the trampled fabric. Tragic.
heh.
The not so funny bit was that
i was cold and wet and shivering and dripping and freezing and i'd also
developed one of those inexplicable stomachaches-that-just-appear along
the way. But, i'm home now, and thawing. ahh. *flex fingers*
"i feel not in my fingers....i feel not in my toes...
umbrellas all around me, all dead or comatose..."
hee hee. *giggle*
Ohno. i've become a giggling pile of mush!
*mush mush*
Ahem. *cough* ('cuse me) . Let me now attempt
to engage your interest. Yesterday, i went for a dance party! It was the
SSA one i yabbered about in the last entry. Why its on a thursday night,
i don't know, but most likely because most of them students have no class
on fridays. Ah. but guess who does [bwah]. Here i digress a little
: Most of the 1st-yr timetables i've seen so far, seem to have tuesdays
and fridays almost empty, or empty altogether of classes. Its almost as
if going back to school on monday is so stressful we need to take tuesday
off to recuperate before getting into the swing of things for wed and thurs,
and then taking friday off for an extended weekend! I think its brilliant,
by the way.
But back to the party... It
started at about 9pm, ending about 3am. I told my mother i'd be there about
9 and i'd get home around 12. Haha. Went with a bunch of friends, and arrived
at almost 11pm. At first, just did the usual thing (i.e., wander around
and figure out what there is to do/ scout for cute guys/ feel out of place)...
then, got a bottle of sub-zero and made plans to drink till we were happy,
so we'd get the guts to get on the dance floor. There really wasn't
anything else to do. blah blah blah... And so, we were dancing! The
music sucked though. All crappy dance tracks, sounding like stuff you'd
get from the discount racks in cd shops. So anyway, i was sortof dancing
with a friend, this tall slim girl who would've been hit on alot if only
she didn't keep leaving the dance floor for breathing air. Anyway, there
was this once we were just trying to make the most of another crap track,
when these two guys seemed to join us, which was fine, of course. Both
were about average height, one was this longish-haired dopey-sort who didn't
inspire any emotions whatsoever, the other was slightly cooler, in a tight
black tee and grey pants. Liang(?) and Tony. Hyuk.
Backtracking a bit, once when
she'd left me alone (because the music was crap--and it was), i found myself
next to this indian guy, who was with his circle of friends, all incredible
dancers... well maybe not exactlyincredible, but definitely credible.
Anyhow, he was cute. heehee (u cant stop me!) Yeah... and it was fun watching
him...and watching him... and soon enough, i was hooked. Before i go on,
let me describe the dance area. It wasn't very big, and there was a platform-stage
part at the back, where all these exhibitionist dancers would show-off.
Eventually people just got up there for the fun of it, and my cute dark
guy went up there too. ahh. he is sooo cool.
Back to Liang(?) and Tony.
Tony spoke first. He made the
introductions, which seemed to require lip-to-ear interaction, what with
the loud music. Anyhow, that was fine and dandy. Then, my dear friend left
again. (argh) What happened then was, upon retrospection, quite funny
too (everything's funny today! heehee). Yes. my dear friend left me alone
with them, and everything was alright for awhile. The Liang guy was doing
his bob-sway-bob-sway dance, Tony was being (relatively) normal, and i
was looking at Cute dark guy on the platform. Ahhh. he is so cool. Oh yes!
digression again: they were giving out these glow-sticks, and Cute dark
guy got one, and proceeded to stick it on the front of his pants, no prizes
for guessing what he meant. Anyhow, i was right in front of him then, and
i grabbed it! ahah! hehehh... Ways to get someone's attention #1: Grab
his phallic symbol.
Well that was fun. heh. But
back to pre-digression again... so there was Liang(?)
and Tony, and then suddenly Tony was drifting away, and Liang(?)was coming closer. and closer. and asked me questions by pulling
me closer by my waist and whispering in my ear. *creeped out*. oh but i
lie, it wasn't too bad, the floor was really crowded by then and he wasn't
being offensive. However, he did keep coming closer, so i kept backing
away, and backing away, till the wall was behind me. Argh. I'd purposely
backed into the corner where Cute dark guy was, and i sent him 'save me!'
looks, but he didn't understand, and smiled back. So there i was, almost
back to wall, and bob-sway-bob-sway Liang coming closer still. In mild
desperation i turned to face the wall instead, realised how stupid that
was, then just gave up and squeezed my way out through the mash of bodies,
making feeble gestures of 'i'm going to find my friends'.
Ah well. You're probably thinking
that i shouldn't have let myself be cornered, etc., well yeah lah, but
it was so crowded thats easier said than done. First time it's ever happened
to me anyway, and this was only the second dance party i've ever been to.
Yep. why i persist in displaying my pathetic-ness, i don't know.
N'mind, back to the party ~
I don't totally recall what
happened right after that. I did find my friend, however, and made her
feel bad for abandoning me. haha. yadah yadah blah blah... sat down a bit...
watched some pool... drank a little smirnoff, got bored. So, back to the
dance floor again. The logic behind this was, if i was going to be bored
out of my mind, i might as well be engaged in some mindless aerobic fat-burning
exercise instead of just sitting around. So, i found a few friends back
on the dance floor, and got back into the rhythm. *jump jump around*. Sometimes
i wonder what i look like when i'm dancing. Sometimes i think its better
i don't know since i might never dance again if i did.
Time passed... C6H12O6+
6O2 + ADP + P --> ATP + 6H2O + 6CO2 ,
and my calories happily roasted away. Lucky people who didn't/don't study
bio/chem, ignore the above equation. I probly got it wrong too.
Anyhow, i found myself alone
again, and again in the vicinity of Tony and Liang (agh). This time, Liang
was content to leave me alone and in fact, the both of them got up onto
the platform, next to Cute dark guy (he is So cool)... Tony tried to get
me up on stage too, but i declined, mainly cos my boots were a little slippery
and i'd have fallen and humiliated myself utterly if i'd tried to climb
up. I try not to humiliate myself. i try very hard. I did get up there
in the end, when i sat on the edge for awhile, then realised i could just
get up from there. It was freaky at first, cos i was right at the edge,
and risked abject humiliation, as well as a back injury if i fell. It also
occurred to me that dancing on the edge, in full view of everyone was almost
pretty much abject humiliation, under the assumption that i can't dance.
heh. Good thing was, there were alot of smoke effects, and that hid
a multitude of embarrassments. I also moved to the back. Cute dark guy
noticed i was now watching him at eye level instead of eye-to-shin, but
he stayed in the center, and at the front, ahh he is so cool...
So there i was at the back,
with two other shyish girls, at one end of the platform, hoping no one
noticed me, when a few people suddenly left the platform, and i found myself
near the front again, exposed. argh. heh. Then, the other 'funny' thing
happened. Tony came up behind me, and held me by the waist so that we were
dancing together. Of Course i was surprised. But let me say first, that
he was reasonably attractive, and at least didn't dance like a dork. So
it was fun trying to keep in rhythm with him. Then, he got closer, and
to put it simply, there was a firmness about him. yes. it was hard not
to miss it (euphemism euphemism). Ahem.
heheheh. I'm finding this all
incredibly funny now, i think im high on the tofu (i love tofu) i had for
lunch. There was some mortification though, when i realised we were right
in front of the stage, and definitely attracting some attention. yeah.
And Cute dark guy looked over, and saw us, and looked surprised. i wonder
if that was good or bad. Aren't guys supposed to find a girl more attractive
if they find out some other guy wants them?
Anyway, i got worried about
Tony after awhile, and removed his hands and faced him again, away from
the masses on the floor. After awhile, I got tired, and retired to the
back again, content to watch Cute dark guy do his stuff.
Somewhere around there (or before
that), they stopped the music for awhile (the music was consistently crap),
and did this lucky draw thing, and this girl took the mike and said: "Are
you having Fun?"
Crowd: "No!" "The music is Crap!" "eh,
deejay Kayu!" "sucks man!"
Girl: "What was that? i can't hear you! Are You
Having Fun?"
Crowd: "NOOOO!"
Girl: "That's better, I'm glad you're all having
such a great time. Now i'm going to read out the
winner
for the lucky draw!"
Crowd: "Ugh." (wandering off to get drinks)
Cute dark guy went to get a
drink, hence, so did i. heh. I went to the bar to get a drink, and found
myself in conversation with this 30-ish guy, who turned out to be a US
Navy guy on vacation. After declining invitations to dance and explaining
why all the girls were 'too tired' to dance (lie lie), i found out he was
from Hawaii, and that was cool, cos i used to live in Hawaii, and its one
of my favourite places in the world. So we talked while i tried to do a
mental pull on the bartender to come to me and take my order. After like
aeons, my coke finally came, and i went off to look for Cute dark guy who
i'd seen sitting alone(!) at one of the table-things. He wasn't there when
i looked again. Stupid bar. Anyway, i found friends again, and stood around
chatting, when i felt someone touch my waist, and it was Tony (ahah), on
his way to the bar. A few minutes later, there was another nudge. Guess
who it was? Cute dark guy! heheh. he was saying hi on his way back to the
dance floor. Awww.w....w......
Maybe i'm boring you already,
those of you who aren't already shocked at my behaviour. *grin* In any
case, not much happened after that i think... went back to the dance floor
to watch Cute dark guy in motion, and stuck with 3 girls i'd never seen
before. Stuck with them, because by then i was sick of guys (except...).
Also, the other navy guys were coming onto the dance floor and by sticking
with a group of girls, they don't approach you directly. 30-ish Hawaiian
guy was also wandering around (hide hide). I'd planned to stick around
till the thing ended (3+am), then maybe i'd finally end up talking with
you know who. Unfortunately, my friends were by then ready to leave. I
think they'd been bored/tired for quite some time already... So i left
with them in a cab, and got home at abt 3.15am, deliciously high, but wishing
i'd at least gotten Cute dark guy's name. Heh. mebbe i should've written
my email address on a slip of paper and passed it to him, eh?
Maybe. Oh wellllll.... Party
partier partiest... They're so much fun, but i don't think there're any
in the soonish future. Just as well i guess. UNSW is reputed to be the
top uni in Aust. (with Uni of Melbourne), and i have alot of work to do.
argh. Apparently, a common grouse among the com.science students in UNSW,
is that people in UTS (uni of technology, sydney) get to slack and party
so often, while we're slogging away for the same degree. heheh. me slog.
farny.
Last thing for this update, i
had my first computing tutorial today. So for interests sake, let me summarise
the various demographics (is this the right wrd?) of my various tutorials.
Psychology: ~20 girls,
2 guys. Mostly Caucasian.
Philosophy: Quite evenly
spread between genders. Almost all Caucasian.
Computing: ~14 guys,
1 girl <-- me. Even mix of Asian & Caucasian.
Math: Evenly spread between
genders, Almost all Asian.
Each class has a different atmosphere,
different politics to play, and different barriers to overcome. I think
its safe to say i feel most comfortable in the maths tutes, and (maybe)
surprisingly, least comfortable in philosophy rather than computing, but
i'll elaborate on that later when i've had more classes. :)
I should end this here. The wind
has stopped trying to push my window panes out, and i should be getting
my dinner. i had So Much Fun last night! ( Update on 17/9/98:
If Tony is reading this, would he be so kind as to mail me/fill in that
little form-thing below? )
