Historic family home of the Earl of Devon, Poderham Castle was built between 1390 and 1420 by Sir Philip Courtenay. The present Earl is his direct descendant. The castle was extensively damaged during the Civil War. When the family returned to the Castle seventy years later they embarked on a series of rebuilding and restoration into the 19th century.
