Stefan Braun
99 Allenby RD. Tel Aviv
03-5604725 R

Atmosphere & Design - Romantic. A good place to see the "who's and who's". Desn't look much from the outside, but once you go in you see a beautiful patio and bar plus nice inside tables.

Service - Somewhat slow.

Price - About 250+ NS per couple (sharing appetizer, two main courses, wine and two desserts + tip).

Recommended dish - Lasagna with sweet potatos & pumpkin.

In conclusion... A great place to hold your sweet heart's hand over soft candle light plus good food. I say - go there.

Namaste
4 Florentine St. Tel Aviv
03-6818280 P

Atmosphere & Design - Welcome to India: the sounds, smells and taste.

Service - Always gracious.

Price - Reasonable. 30-45 NS a dish, alcohol as usual (about 30 NS for cocktail).

Recommended dish - Chai (herbal scented tea on milk), Kulfi (hell, pistachio, cream and herbs ice-cream, yumm!), all rice based meals.

In conclusion... I love the smell and food. Not much use trying to hear what the person across the table from you is saying though.

Sushidu - Sushi Bar
15 Rotschild Ave. Tel Aviv
03-5177794 R

Atmosphere & Design - A cold, somewhat industrial design. Yuppie crowd, lots of nice black dresses to see.

Girls - straighten your hair before going there. Guys - dress corporate.

Service - Courteous.

Price - Slightly problematic (like almost all sushi bars). 250+ NS per nice amount of sushi and sashimi for two and japanese beer plus tip.

Recommended dish - Sushi sushi sushi of all kinds.

In conclusion... Any place which serves good sushi is a favorite of mine.

Yoezer - Wine bar
2 Yoezer Ish Ha-Bira St. Across the clock, Jaffa.
03-6839115 R

Atmosphere & Design - An old dungeon in old Jaffa, just beautiful. As romantic as it gets.

Service - Courteous.

Price - Depands. Wine ranges from 20 NS per glass to 1500 NS the bottle. Food ranges from 30 up (and I do mean up). About 400+ should cover two people with two appetizers, two main courses and two desserts plus tip and one of the cheaper wines or cocktails).

Recommended dish - Nisouaze salad, rich chocolate cake.

In conclusion... Great place for birthdays and anniversaries. Very romantic. Trust the waiter to offer great wine for a reasonable price.

Mazzetti - Pasta & Pizza bar
34 Ha-Barzel St. Ramat Hachayal, Tel Aviv
03-6475969 R

* Hello colleagues! *

Atmosphere & Design - Big antipasti bar and tabels in an industrial design in the middle of the Atidim "silicon valley". The crowd consists of high tech working men in use of their coupons. Nice big colorful soda syrop bottles to please the eye.

Service - Doing their best to keep with the everlasting flow of hungry engineers waiting for a table (which sometimes takes 30 minutes to get).

Price - You get antipasti or soup plus pasta or pizza and a soft drink for your average ~28 NS coupon.

Recommended dish - None.

In conclusion... Apart for being a very medium pasta joint (with the oiliest antipasti ever), this place served me a dish including one of the most disgusting pieces of dirt I have ever seen in a plate. When I asked for a replacment I got the exact same "thing" again.

I say - coupons or no coupons they will never see my face again.

Metuka
4 Shadal St. Tel Aviv
03-5664390 C

Atmosphere & Design - Sweet old - Tel - Aviv style. Cute terrace (for the warmer days) and a nice "old - apartment - turned - coffee house" indoors. Yuppie Tel Aviv and Shenkin crowd (like yours truly).

They also have the most comfortable big tables, even for a couple.

Service - Charming most of the time or at the worst, Courteous. My complaints about the icki goose pie I had ordered were recieved with warm apologies and an invetation to order something else (which I graciously turned down). The sum was not taken off the final bill though.

Price - As most of TA's "inni" coffee houses. 180 + NS got us two main dishes, an appetizer, two soft drinks, one alcoholic drink and two hot drinks plus desserts for two people and tip.

Recommended dish - Well..The side salads are nice and so was the chocolate fudge (my partner almost fainted after taking one little bite) and they have warm milk with flavors (very sweet though, so please be careful).

In conclusion... This is very sweet place to sit in and have a cup of something nice to drink and maybe a cookie or a cake. I wouldn't recommend the food though.

Trio
Eben Gabirol pinat Arlozerov St. Tel Aviv
03-5235578 C

Atmosphere & Design - Yuppie yuppie yuppie. People stand in lines to get a table and many "cool" (singers, models, business men etc) are seen sipping coffee ahile chatting to their friends (on the cell phone ofcourse). If you look carefully, you might see a BMW Z3 or a FireBird standing on the sidewalk near the place.

The tables are too small.

Service - Our waitress was obviously down with the flu. The promiss I got to get some tissue paper for my partner was never fulfilled.

Price - 120+ NS for two warm drinks, one soft drink and two main courses plus tip. You be the judge.

Recommended dish - ??

In conclusion... Oh well.. If you want see and be seen. The food is OK, no more and no less.

Dixie
120 Igal Alon St. Tel Aviv
03-6966123 R

Open 24 hour a day!

Atmosphere & Design - American style meat bar - diner with extra qualities (or as my partner puts it "a posh diner"). The best sits are the leather (or is it a look alike leather?) cubicles. Soft (too soft even) lights will help you welcome the great food. From serving 24 hour a day to the non stop american coffee refills, this place is the nearest thing to a New York I had the pleasure of seeing in Tel Aviv.

Special morning, day and night menus, yumm!

Service - Courteous. It is a shame you have to ask for a coffee refill instead of just getting it when time comes.

Price - Rather expensive. You will probably leave about 400+ NS for dinner for two plus tip. Breakfast for two, including mimosa cocktails and great eggs benedict plus american coffee for two was ~105 NS including tip.

Recommended dish - Eggs benedict & mimosa (champagne and orange juice cocktail) breakfast - the greatest thing after a party (or an after-party). Most steaks. Chocolate souffle, pecan pie.

In conclusion... Their breakfast (must go try the pancake tower next time..) and late night menus are absulute winners. They also do take away, though by the time you get your dish, it probably lost most of it's pazzas.

Best thing to do, from my expreiance, go to an after-party, dance dance dance and then go there for breakfast. I love it!

Piccotto
41 Hameyasdim St. Zichron Yaakov
06-6290646 R

Atmosphere & Design - A beautiful terrace viewing the Zichron Yaakov main street.

Service - Courteous and learned. Trust the waiter to recommend the best dish and wine to accompany it perfectly.

Price - As most of the restaurant of this merit, 450+NS should cover wine (in glasses, mind you) cold drink, first and main courses and desserts plus coffee for two, very satisfied, people.

Recommended dish - You choose it, I recommend it.

In conclusion... Worth the long drive either as a wonderful finish to a little day trip to this beautiful area or even as the main event of the trip.

Don't forget to order a table in advance!

plus
an extra for the beautiful view

Noga billiard club
4 Pinsker St. Tel Aviv
03-6296457 P

Atmosphere & Design - Biliard pub as a biliard pub should be: dark, groovy 80's music. Long line for the tables (better call in advance).

Service - Hard to find a witress in all the crowd. Once you do, you are guaranteed to get your drink in a split sec.

Price - Usual pub prices, 25-35 NS for your usual salad, toast etc. 25-35 NS for a cocktail. A table (as for 14.11.99 will cost you 38 NS an hour in during the week).

Recommended dish - Well.. Since this is a pub I would have to say go for the traditional french fries and beer or coke.

In conclusion... If you love biliard, go there - it is very cool. If biliard is not your thing, better skip this one.

Lemon Grass - Thai food
98 Eben Gabirol St. Tel Aviv
03-5275111 R

Atmosphere & Design - Quick thai food joint. They also do take out, in these great little "like in the movies" cardboard boxes.

Service - Straight and to the point.

Price - Just fine. A real nice sized dish will cost you from 27-45 NS.

Recommended dish - Fried rice with cucumber, chicken and anans. Lemon grass soup. Shrimp cakes.

Beware of the coconut milk dessert soup.

In conclusion... If you feel like eating fast food with chopsticks I say - go for it. Very fun as a take-out (and ruther fast too).

Limonada
22 Sheshet Ha-Yamim St. Bney Brak
03-5793675 R

Atmosphere & Design - Israeli hummus-gril at it's pick (99% of the times I have been there). Plastic "keter" tables and chairs and the smell.. ahh.. the smell..

Service - Quick and mostly friendly.

Price - The usual for this sort of places (10 - 30 NS for pita, laffa or a plate should cover it).

Recommended dish - Home made lemonade. All grilled meats. Hummus. Ok, everything in a pita (or out of it).

* Hello colleagues! *

If you are taking a course at Sela inst, don't forget to visit this place with your coupons.

They also do take away.

Beware the line at noon.

In conclusion... If you need shawarma or a "hummus chips salat", this is the place for you. Yes indeed.

Spaghettim
They are all around folks, just take your pick
(and they also do take away) R

Atmosphere & Design - Clean and yuppie.

Service - Courteous but I wouldn't trust the waiters to recommend a dish.

Price - Ok, about 30-50 NS a dish.

Recommended dish - I love the spaghetti in chicken, lemon and asparagus cream sauce.

Beware of the sweet spaghetti desserts, ick.

In conclusion... Not the coolest place, but nice enough if you feel like pasta.

Psata Mia
34 Habarzel St. Tel Aviv
03-6499346 R

* Hello colleagues! *

Atmosphere & Design - From the high-tech places in the Atidim area, this is my favorite. Nice design with a nice big chandelier and two floors, of which I like the upper one the best.

They also sell fresh pasta.

Service - Really depands on your waiter..

Price - If you are coming with your 28 NS you will have to add about 10 NS to get a nice dish (if not more).

Recommended dish - I like the four cheeses filled genhocci with tomato sauce.

In conclusion... I would like to try buying their fresh pasta one day. a good enough place all togeather (food wise) though my working buddies find the idea of paying that much extra ruther irritating.
