Folkin’ Blues

Originally a musical trio, Folkin’ Blues had a baby and called it "folkedelic". Blending roots of folk, blues and world music, the trio developed a new genre. Folkedelic music is best described as improvised music within traditional folk and blues structure, all with world music rhythms and latin flavour. The group has provided leadership to those who have become supportive of this new sound by organizing the annual Lose Yer Shoes Folkadelic Festival.

Folkin’ Blues has been playing together since 1996 and has enjoyed the rise from a low profile folk trio to a four piece band that now produces a unique sound. Folkin’ Blues has toured South-Central Ontario, performing for a variety of audiences. From nightclubs to auditoriums and outdoor festivals, including Lose Yer Shoes and Mariposa, Folkin’ Blues plays a wide variety of cover and original music. Folkin’ Blues plays for all ages.

Eric Johnson has lived in Muskoka all of his life. Eric writes most of the band's original music, and provides lead guitar and vocals. His life-long love of music is his drive to continue to produce his own brand of folkedelic and blues music, aspiring to make it part of today’s popular culture.

Tom Kremer contributes his folk-style lyrics, bass and acoustic guitar playing. He presently teaches music in Bradford and continues to be a driving force in the band.

Percussionist Nigel Moses adds a flavour of world music with his extensive knowledge of timings and rhythms. His love of music is an asset that will continue to drive the rhythmic sounds of Folkin’ Blues.

Although the high powered energy is best suited to large venues, the group can shift into an intimate folk group covering the sounds of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and other traditional folk musicians. In addition to its English language repertoire, Folkin’ Blues is equally able to present folk sets of French songs.

From presenting first sets of traditional folk music to second sets of free form folkedelic music, Folkin’ Blues always present an explosive show to their audiences. Folkin’ Blues is an ever evolving community with members each working on their individual projects as well as performing together at various events like The Lose Yer Shoes Folkadelic Festival, Lose Yer Shoes fun-raising events and other shows.
