Those who have navigated for pleasure or for work, will always feel a great awe and immense respect for the sea.

This site is dedicated to the great source of life that is the sea.
It is not my intention to analyze the sea biologically or to discuss the technical aspects of navigation or boat construction.
Instead I would simply like to create a basic panorama of the "tools of the sea"  that men use today to navigate over its surface.

The most simple crafts found on the market today are:  The Rubber Dinghy This type of craft ranges from those that are less than six feet in length to those that are similar to large motorboats.

Row Boats

In many towns along the Italian coast, old fishermen, who are now retired and
fish for hobby or to feed their families, use small wooden row boats, occasionally equipped with small engines.

Rows boats are not only used for fishing but also for traditional rowing races.
In my town, Porto Santo Stefano, there is a competition and celebration called
"The Palio Marinaro". It has been held every year on the 15th of August for over 50 years.

To construct wooden boats, craftsmen respect the ancient techniques of century old traditions. The boats are functional and a pleasure to look  at.

The  Oar

What is an oar and why does it move a boat? The oar isn't anything more than a second lever where the fulcrum is on the center of the blade, the resistence point is on the oarlock, and the power is found on the handgrip where the rower puts his strength.
