by Dorothea Stobbe (formerly Zwerschke)(Last Update 24th November, 2000)For my German friends: Deutsche Version Welcome to my homepage...during the next couple of weeks I'm trying to give this page the long needed general overhaul. As I've just finished my exams I think I'll finally be at leisure to do so. *she said with all good intentions* A new "era" has just begun for me, I'm a university graduate now. I can't really believe it that I'm finally through with all that. In February 2001 I'll be entering teacher training. Keep your fingers crossed it all goes well.
(Still in the process of updating, please be patient. Christmas, New Year, my nephews, health problems,...and before you know it it's February and I'll be in teacher's training.)
ME in a nutshell...I am a 26-year old graduate from near Dortmund, Germany (born 23rd July, 1974). I'm soon embarking on a two-year course (a bit like the PGCEs) to become a secondary school teacher. As you read through this page you will learn a bit more about my interests. There are a number of things I really like that should be featured in this homepage. I'll start with the more intelligent things first probably to make a good first impression... *grins* LITERATUREI like reading a lot, my favs are Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting), Edgar Allen Poe, Anne Rice (The Vampire Chronicles), Herman Hesse (Siddartha, Narcissus and Goldmund), poetry (esp. Dylan Thomas)I'll try to find various interesting texts. Previously I've had an excerpt from Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales and a poem by Attila the Stockbroker. If you would like to enjoy a "literature reading" proceed to my Literature Lounge The update's in progress and I thought I would do something for my German friends this time. I'd like to introduce the "Literatur Cafe im Internet" site which I just came across. I've written my dissertation about Sir Gawain and the Green Knight so I've done a lot of reading on the Arthurian Romance front. One of my major topics in German was the Arthurian Romances of Hartmann von Aue in Middle-High German. I'm fascinated by the Arthurian legend and all that's connected with it so I might try and present something about it on this page. As a start here's a very good link for everyone interested in Arthurian legend and literature: Arthurnet!
PASSIONS...As for the more "primitive" or let's say less cultural interests...as most of my web firends will know I'm a chat addict so I'd like to recommend Alamak Internet Chat. However it has become unlikely to meet me there. I've not been on the chats much these days, didn't have the time. Still, I couldn't live without the occasional chat, so I spent quite some time on a German chat. It's a chat for fans of a popular series of children's books (The three investigators - Die drei Fragezeichen). The average age of people on there is approx. 25, I think...well, nostalgic feelings about our lost childhood I guess. :-)Though in my private life there's only ONE man right now...there is a serious rival...check this out: *drool* Antonio Banderas Fan-Page... Being from near Dortmund of course there's something else that's very important in my life...Some of you might know, Dortmund is famous for its beer and the local football site: Borussia Dortmund so click this link and nip into football heaven... :) Something most of my friends find rather odd triggering all kinds of sneers and remarks is that I like Rugby. Came to like it during my stay in England 1996/97. And it's not just about hunks...for all of you who are interested, here's an interesting link: Rugby!.
There's something new on the list. Okay, I go along with the hype but since the series was launched in Germany on 5th September 1999 I decided I will become a SouthPark fan. It's such a cool show! I loved it!
A while ago I used to play in an improvisation theatre group in Bochum called "Die Hottenlotten". They've also become a part of this cyberworld and have now got their own homepage: Hottenlotten Bochum
WORKI nearly forgot to include the place of my daily suffering for the past seven years: The English Department of Ruhr-University Bochum so check this out and see where I've been studying and working as a tutor. On the Homepage of the English Department they're featuring a tutor page. Very interesting as well: info on my former "boss" Hein Versteegen or the ALLEGEDLY most popular lecturer of the English Department...(according to his huge female fan club) John ("Angus") Poziemski Unfortunately (luckily?) no photos on there...*grin*But no worries...I've got some right here!!! Apparently John has even updated his personal info page but still no colour photos or interesting details...we were VERY disappointed...
Well, as with everything, I get the notion - Ruhr-Uni-Bochum can't live with it but can't live without it. Now the moment has come that I've been working and waiting for for seven long years now and it's an wakward feeling to be leaving uni. MUSICMusic is also a very important part of my life, bands I like are numerous and I'm too lazy to list them all, to give you a notion of what direction it is take a look at VISIONS music magOh - I forgot to mention that in this section earlier - my nickname TairrieB is taken from the singer of a band called Tura Satana (formerly Manhole) who I think is pretty cool! You might just as well visit the Monter Magnet Page to find out more about at least one of my fav bands. Just seen them live at the Bizarre Festival in Cologne. I just love them!!!!!!!! As you might have gathered from the picture above and my vampire link, I have a slight affinity to goth and goth music as well for that matter but as I said I don't really have a favourite band or a favourite style of music. Another thing I like is clubbing. Just for fun, here's a Glasgow club I liked a lot (especially because it's featured in TRAINSPOTTING)...Volcano Rumour has it it got knocked down. I was there on the last day before the club was closed which was quite an experience. It was PACKED to say the least. TRAVELI like travelling a lot. I've been to Scotland, Wales, Spain, the US, Holland, Italy, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, and I've spent nine months in Oxted, Surrey (England) working as an assistant teacher at Oxted County School. This summer was hoping to go to Scotland again (Bochum Summer School in Stirling) but the whole thing was cancelled...unlucky! *snif* But I've been to London for almost a fortnight with my hubby. Visiting my "family" (host family) in Oxted for the last time before Gill's moving to Bristol. She sold the house in Oxted...
Now, if you want some pictures, enter my Photo Gallery where I just put some new pictures on the walls. The old shots from my holidays on the Isle of Mull and the pictures of James "the muppet" Pass, my host brother in England can still be viewed, I decided to display the pics as thumbnails from now on to fit more on the page...I promise to put some new pics on every now and then, I know you lot are curious...(just like me!) I might (if I've got the time) add something like a holiday album with piccies from some of my travels. Howzat?
FRIENDS AND FUNThis page wouldn't be complete without introducing some of my FRIENDS!!I also included my on-line friends REDHEAD and lestat. (The best friends in cyberspace!!!)
If you know me from the chat, you might know I always used to be one of Alamak's vampires...enter my
Vampire Lair if you dare and if you like vampires and Anne Rice or if you are just curious to see me and a couple of friends in our Halloween gear...*fanged grin* Britta took some new pics at Pam's Halloween party this year, so as soon as they're ready and scanned, I'll put them on my vampire page! Bad news is, my scanner seems to be broken and so is my Da's...unlucky! Well, it'll just take me a while to scan in new pics.
VEGETARIANISMEver wondered what babe Brad Pitt, Take That's Mark Owen, "JR" Larry Hagman, K D Lang, Bob Dylan, x-files babe David Duchovny, Kim Basinger, Edwin Moses, Thomas Edison, Mahatma Gandhi, Plato, Milton, Kafka and Lisa Simpson had in common? My Veggie Page answers all your questions. It's still in the making but I hope that I'll have the time to finish it. YET TO COMEAlso in the making, my Virtual Library where in the future you will find all sorts of useful texts like essays "Hausarbeiten", old exam papers, my reports (Assistant Teaching in Oxted), all students might find useful. I'll try to display some and provide the rest of the texts to download.I will soon put on some of my essays (i.e. "Hausarbeiten) for students to download and READ to get some inspiration for their OWN WORK...*nudge, wink* I've got a 25-page essay about magical elements in Hartmann von Aue's Iwein coming up and an essay about Walter Benjamin's essay Das Kunstwerk im Zeitalter seiner technischen Reproduzierbarkeit in relation to the work of Andy Warhol, etc. etc. highly interesting and very intelligent stuff, don't you think? *laughs* Email!
