Antipsychiatry

Born in 1928 in Saint Etienne. He began in psychiatry in Lyon under the direction of Jean Guyotat, then worked during eight years in Saint-Alban with François Tosquelles. He was actively part of the movement of institutional psychotherapy. He became in 1964 head doctor in Fleury-les-Aubray and worked at the same time as a sector psychiatrist and a writer. Many of his books are testimonies of his fight against psychiatry of asylums and against what he calls neo-alienism.

Psychoanalyst, Roger Gentis also is Regent of the College of "Pataphysique" (Chaire de Travaux Pratiques d'Aliénation mentale et Psychiatriques).

He presently works for the Société pour l'Etude des Pratiques de l'Inconscient.
