Here are the books that I have enjoyed
reading and found extremely helpful. If you only want to buy one book I
would recommend one of the first two. The Miura and Schleicher books are
ideal to trigger your imagination and teach you how to reproduce certain
desings but will not teach you the art of marbling. The Halfer book is
listed not so much for its marbling instructions as for its historical
importance. It is very hard to find because it is out of print. The Schleicher
video is extremely helpful especially when combined with one of the books
listed. You can buy these books online from amazon.com by just clicking
on the title.

Medeiros,
Wendy Addison. Marbling Techniques:how
to create traditional and contemporary designs on paper and fabric.
Watson-Guptill, 1994
Begun in 15th-century Persia, marbling looks as mysterious as alchemy:
the beautiful swirls and veins of color, familiar as elements in old bookbindings,
seem to be based on some exodic, secret recipe. In fact, these designs
are surprisingly simple to make with everyday materials and utensils. Marbling
techniques is the essential full-color guide to this dazzling art,
full of step-by-step illustrations, helpful tips, and insider's knowledge
about what you need for marbling, what papers and paints are recommended,
and even how to make your own marbling tools. Soon you'll be creating familiar
patterns like the Turkish Stone and the Peacock, marbling floral and other,
more unusual motifs, and making your own magical spontaneous designs. (editor's

Schleicher,
Patty & Mimi. Marbled Designs A Complete
Guide to Fifty-Five Elegant Patterns.
Lark Books, 1993
Whether you've been marbling for two weeks or 10 years, Marbled Designs
is for you. With clear instructions and step-by-step diagrams, Patty and
Mimi Schleicher show you how to create 55 fascinating patterns. The authors,
professional marblers and experienced teachers, assume you are familiar
with the fundamentals of marbling - making the bath, mordanting the paper
or fabric, dropping the paints on the tray. They take you from there and
lead you through the steps needed to create traditional and contemporary
patterns. You'll learn which tools to use, the movements to make, and the
directions in which to take them. You'll also find tips for varying the
tools, in case you want to produce your own unique designs. All patterns
are shown in two different color schemes; most are shown in two different
scales. Marbled Designs is an invaluable how-to manual for readers
who would like to increase their repertoire of handsome patterns.
