My background: papers
Publications Herewith I am leaving you some of my papers which have been published. I am not a scientist, they just represent a compilation of data on a given topic for which I was asked by my students or colleagues to write something. With other words,... just for fun. Some of these articles have been produced at the occasion of a talk a had to present.
Hazards & health Presented at the occasion of a seminar organised by Art Restorers Association, Belgium, held at the University of Ghent-Belgium on Saturday 21st of October, 1995 at the Pharmaceutical and Toxicology Institute. Josee Van Loon, Op zoek naar Paracelsus: bescherming van kunstwerk en restaurateur, p.57-75. On search for Paracelsus: protection of Art Object and Restorer, p.67-75. English version of my contribution available on this site. The proceedings are produced by Art Restorers Association and still available on request. Title: Gezondheids- en toxicologische aspecten van de restauratie van kunstwerken (Health and toxicological aspects of the restoration of Art objects). Authors: W.Lambert, L. de Thibault de Boesinghe, M. De Cleene and J. Van Loon. 107 pages (2 languages: eng./dutch, 4 chapters). ISBN: 90-802791-1-0
Gold leather I participated in an exhibition in Brussels, organised by Art Restorers Association-Belgium, held at the cultural center in Elsene (november, 1995), at the occasion of 'Open monumentendag'. There different conservation techniques where demonstrated and explained to the audiance and visitors. The stand of 'gold leather conservation' was held by myself and my colleague, Eddy Dankers, Nijlen-Belgium. At that occasion a text has been produced which is available on this site. It is unfortunatly only available in Dutch and French, but I think it is is not so bat, and again, my students like it,... They always succeed in motivating me to take some initiatives. It is also available as a hard copy in the Newsletter of Art Restorers Association, 'Contact 1994, p.10-11: l'Histoire du cuir d'or aux Pays Bas vs. Geschiedenis van het Goudleer in de Nederlanden'. Don't be surprised by this title. Once the Flanders belonged to The Netherlands. Belgium became independent in 1830 (see history of Ghent in article of the bookbinders in Ghent).
Karacho paper (Kyoto) Coming soon. This text is in cooperation with Hilde Maenaut from the Belgian Embassy and the Family Senda from Kyoto-Japan. Meanwhile you can have some idea of this wonderful paper by looking on the information page of the exhibition I recently organised in Brussels.
Bookbinders in Ghent This is the summary of a paper I presented at Library of Congress in July 1992 and for the Guild of Bookbinders, also in Washington (Folgers Shakespeare Library). I also presented the paper in Tokyo-Japan in the Conservation studyo of Mary Yamaryo, April 1996. I was also invited to present this paper in Ghent at the occasion of a social programme included in an international congress, where it was combined with a demonstration and exhibition of some original bindings from Ghent. This text is published in the book (ISBN 90-802791-2-9). The text is in English: Bookbinding and Historic Ghent, p.167-172 (perhaps not very scientific but very well appreciated when presented with slides of the city, bindings, tools etc...). It is a combination of some historical facts of the city of Ghent with some information of well known bookbinders from XVIIth century till today. You cann't understand the bookbinding without knowing some history of the city. Coming soon, and I will do my best to include some picters of original well known bindings
