We all have a darker side, one that needs to be acknowledged and expressed at times. Putting some of the thoughts, feelings, and images of this dark side into words is cathartic and therapeutic; surely it is better to express such things in art than to act upon them in other ways...?

"The Thing in the Darkness" was inspired by a piece of music, the name of which I've forgotten, that was written to represent what the title implies: there's something out there, and it's coming for you...and there's not a thing you can do about it.

"Love Denied" is a song that expresses how it feels to be rejected. It was inspired in part by a woman I was close to, for a brief time. As I wrote it, I decided to make it more universal, so that many could relate to it.

"Loneliness" is something we all feel at times. It's not always easy to escape feeling overwhelmed by it.

"Farewell" is a song about feeling as though you're at the end of your rope...feeling that there's only one thing left to do. Though I wrote it before hearing Metallica's "Fade to Black," the feel and structure of the music are similar, as is the concept.
