on’t get me wrong;
I love my son.
But he’s starting to drive me CRAZY.
I was having trouble sleeping last night. I was up, wandering
around the apartment, bumming around on the computer, and trying to clean
out a file cabinet. I don’t know why I didn’t feel like sleeping
– I had had about half of a 2-liter of Caffiene-Free Coke, but since it’s
caffiene-free, I don’t know why that would have bothered me. I have
this conspiracy theory that there really is no such thing as caffiene-free;
that they just put the regular stuff in a different bottle as a big practical
joke to the world. Or maybe the problem was having ten pounds of
sugar coarsing through my bloodstream.
Anyway, I finally settled down for the night around 1 AM – but it was
almost 3 and I was still trying to drift off. I was finally almost
completely out, when….
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!”
That was the sound of our Little One – and soon thereafter it became
the sound of my wife, and finally the sound of me. I think I got
about 2 hours of sleep total last night.
I’m not sure why, but our baby seems to be getting progressively worse
at sleeping. All the books I’ve read say that babies usually sleep
through the night by 3 to 4 months, but he keeps waking up more and more.
And when he wakes up, it’s almost impossible to get him back to sleep.
I think I said to my wife once last night (I was so tired that I’m not
really sure whether I said it or not), “It sounds like he’s dying.”
I think it’s stomach problems, actually. Mylicon seems to help
him out, but you can’t really give the poor kid medicine every night before
he goes to bed. I guess it’s his destiny to have tummy troubles;
both his mom and dad have problems of their own in that department.
ow that I’ve said that,
I should probably also say that he’s getting to be a lot of fun, too.
He’s almost got crawling down – he stretches his arms forward, then scoots
both knees. It’s kind of a gimpy crawl, but at least he’s figured
out some method of forward motion.
He’s also starting to get interested in things – usually things he’s
not supposed to be getting interested in. He loves our space heater,
and the furnace registers – and his favorite toy is our WebTV keyboard
(especially when Mom is trying to type an email to someone). Last
night, I was holding him while eating a dinner of Arby’s takeout.
He reached out for my food -- and his hand landed right in my ketchup.
