Dancer's Law (Music is Liquid)
THE MOONLIGHT
Four friends sitting by a lake
Staring out at the night's calm wake
A gentle breeze
Flowing trees
The full moon overhead
Reflected, topic of what's to be said
Said one, "What do you see
Out beyond on that lonely sea?"
Said another, "I see the moon on the water shining
The shorebirds o'erhead crying, whining
Those of night in moonlight basking
Why are you this question asking"
"My question you answer not.
You speak with fact, not with thought.
Look beyond to birds and light and wake
Look to the real and not the fake.
What is in your heart, in your mind?
That is what I wish to find."
Said another, "I see diamonds, sparkling jewels
Millions of silver pools
I see something rich and pure
A place vague and obscure
A place to live out my days
In happy, wealthy haze."
Said a third, "Look again and feel the fear
Of the demons lurking near.
See the shadows full of hate and death
Moving in immeasureable stealth
This moonlight which us surrounds
Serves to accent the evil that abounds."
Said the next, "Look yet again and see what's there
The ghosts and shadows of those no longer here
Shades of past still watching
A glowing relic hatching
A thousand mysteries
Of a thousand lost and forgotten histories."
Now argued the first, "How see you past and fear
When the silver shining light is clear?"
Said the next, "And it illuminates
All that is black in this dark age."
And the last, "Cannot you see and feel
Those shadows past within that glowing teal?"
The questioner sat quietly listening
By the ancient sea, shining and glistening.
Gazing at the crystal sea
Feeling in seconds fly an eternity
Letting free the mind
To what in that glittering moonlight find.
Then all was quiet, all stop and stare
The questioner meets every single glare
"Who is right, what is in that moonlight reflecting?
How were you this question directing?
Tell us please, what is truth.
What is there in water and moon?"
Speaking slowly, as night turned to day,
"What is there is not for me to say.
Your eyes and mind are yours, not mine
So what you see is truly thine.
But in my eyes what is in that glistening sea?
I believe it is the future that I see.
In those ripples, always moving
Is the moonlight, justly proving
All is changing, all is flowing
See the remnants of moonbeam glowing
What is future is forever coming near
What is past is ever parting here.
When one begins to ponder
As one's mind begins to wander
What is future is what is thought
Past and present ever not.
For what can be divined from what has been
When what is past is already seen."
As the sun would rise, the moon would fall
The breeze still blows, the trees stand tall.
Four friends depart for points unknown
Knowing in mind and soul, all have grown.
All will always be
What they have in moonlight seen.
A number unable to be tallied
Each grain of different origin
Each of equally different future
None more important than another
All a part
Of an immense and greater whole
Every hue blended
In the everchanging mold
The wind blows
Carrying lonely passengers
Some drowning in the sea
Some misplaced in trees
Others carried high
To rest in clouds, looking down on the world
All to return
To the world that was home
The surging force of tide
Retrieving from the multitudes
Those nearest the edge
To continue life on some distant shore
Or suffer in the murky depths
Until the currents change
Newcomers
Used to an existance of freedom
Must now deal
With life among the masses
No longer independent
Now just another
Where a thousand have been before
The cycle continues through age upon age
Each with no true purpose
Just filling a vacant place
Or creating a new space
Only to be carried on wind
Or swallowed by sea
Just searching for permenance
Through all uncertain eternity
The ancient tree stands
As the sunlight falls
Daytime sleeps
As nighttime calls
Life comes to a halt
As the light begins to fail
Except the tree
Swaying in blowing gale
Those of darkness
Creep forth and awake
Leaves rustle
And fall to moonlit lake
The spirits of night
Begin to take their claim
Sweeping through the blackness
Underneath starry gleam
What goes unseen
In day's bright chaos
Is accented in shadow
In calm living stillness
And in this stately being
Such ancient wisdom from tiny seed
Now life inside
Does justly breed
And in the night
When all else is still
Waits towering tree
It's purpose fulfill
As the wind blows strong
An unseen spirit's hand
Amidst the shadows
A lonely stump is all that stands
What was death
To wise and ancient host
Was life to those
Inside the leafy post
and in the winds of night
Life begins anew
A brand new presence
Where towering tree once grew
In the new day
Rotten stump stands in clear
Lost in brightness
New beginning in ending here
Only in shadow and dark
In silver moonbeam
Can light and life
Be truly seen
I am alone,
Watched by unseen eyes.
The wind whistles.
I go to the window,
As the eyes follow.
The air is thick.
The air is electric.
Every nerve is awake,
Every sense acute.
Everything I do,
Watched intensely.
Every motion is felt.
Nothing moves.
Time is still,
As I feel invisible eyes,
Invisible hands.
The spirit nears.
I am no longer alone,
Suspended in time,
Standing in space,
Surrounded by dense and empty air.
DANCER'S LAW (MUSIC IS LIQUID)
Music is liquid
It surrounds
It flows
It seeps
It takes control
Rhythm enters the body
Steals the mind
Dissolves conciousness
The beat fills the blood
Pulsing through the heart
Spreading
Filling
Until it begins to move
Starting motion
Motion made from music
Motion that is music
Music that is motion
Liquid motion
Music is liquid.
An arctic storm
Wind blows
Snow blinds
A white seal
Sits on iceflow
Black eyes stare
The wilderness is cold
And becoming colder
A stranger approaches
Not of this world
Looking for a prize
The colors of the intruder
Unseen in the blizzard
A spot of red
Instantly frozen
Sits on iceflow
Seal stares coldly
Blankly
Lifelessly
At another in its place
Waiting in white
Of arctic storm
Sitting on iceflow
The blue of sky
Dark of night
The light of the sun
Glow of the moon
But something more
What you see
What you see
When you look in my eyes
Something behind
I can't quite grasp
I watch clouds float by
Every change
There is not many
Something hidden
From my sight
What do your eyes see
Looking at me
Are you lookijng at glass
Through empty air as I
Stare through fog
And in the mystery
Always the beauty
Always the beauty
In the eyes I always want
To shine at me
The blue of sky
Dark of night
The light of the sun
Glow of the moon
Even the mystery of someone
Who loves me.
Sitting on the porch
Dreaming my life away
A dragonfly flew by
Then turned and looked at me
Inquisitive dragonfly
He started to fly
Around me, circling
Looking me over
Then flying away
Frightened dragonfly
My dragonfly returned
Not looking back,
Looking at me
He wanted something from me
My dragonfly
By my ear
My dragonfly flies
It's wings reflect
The sun, so bright
And sing to me the song
Only my dragonfly knows
Beautiful dragonfly
My dragonfly lookis in my eyes
I see past the fly
To the dragon
With fire inside
Firey dragonfly
Sit in my hands
Dragonfly
You need not
Fly from me
Oh, my dragonfly
Come with me, dragonfly
I'll show you
What you need to know
Don't fly from me
Beautiful dragonfly
The days go by
I stay with my dragonfly
Planning things to come
Looking ahead to forever
My dragonfly
I know my dragonfly
My dragonfly knows me
We're free to be together
And together, I will fly
With my dragonfly
Sleep has come
Sleep is near
A life of rest
No need to fear
Close your eyes
Think of me
So one last time
Ypu can see
The love remains
We felt so true
One last look
Me to you
Hold my hand
Feel my pain
A time of clouds
A time of rain
Leave me now
Ypur time is done
Heart and soul
We were one
See my tears
So full of grief
Fall to Earth
Like autumn leaf
Time grows short
Time flows on
The wait I face
Is so long
Please watch me
On angel wing
I'll see your light
I'll here you sing
You're with me
I feel your heart
Always together
Never apart
Sun will shine
Rivers flow
Love remains
Always grows
Stay with me
Don't leave me now
I want to live
Show me how
Your flight starts
No more I see
Eyes that glow
Give life to me
Hand in mine
Never fail
I'll feel your breath
In summer gale
No more warmth
No more heat
No more your heart
Has to beat
Always hear
What I say
I'll look for you
Everyday
Climb high
Then fly free
Over mountains
Over trees
Leave this world
Call my name
The wilds beyond
You must tame
Night is here
Dusk is gone
Love me still
I'll see new dawn
Nothing left
An empty shell
I loved so much
Finally fell
Eyes I feel
Watch me now
Now my safety
They will endow
A time of love
A time of peace
A time of hope
A time of grief
Night will pass
Like sun and moon
All I know
I'll see you soon
Until that day
I'll think of you
All the things
That we'd do
I'll leave you now
Never fully
Always know
Your with me
Dawn will come
When all is well
Now I say
Goodnight my angel.
BETWEEN NIGHT AND MORNING
Between night and morning
Between night and morning
Between night and morning
TO CHICAGO
In a town too big
For one long day
Images still linger
How long can one day
But still I return
Many times future
As I sit lost
A different smile glows
A heart goes on
And to the city
Lie the hours
When air grows thick
When light
And shadow
And color
Play with the mind
When dreams and reality
Blend and blur
So real to be felt
Just beyond being touched
When senses are free
And roam as they please
When a wish...
When a dream...
Can be just as real
As they seem
For anyone to see
Anyone like you and me
In it still lives
A memory
I walked by your side
Unable to hide
Trying to soak it in
Near Michigan tide
Dolphins and fish
Symphony tickets
Holograms, the Tower, Navy Pier
A simple wish
Be Built to last
Tiny details, fading fast
And another face
Draws me from the past
Blue eyes all I see
Laughingly looking at me
And a soft shoulder
So I could sleep
Many before
You open the door
Take me to Chicago
Go back once more
A thousand words I hear
And brush away a tear
Live in the present
Remember with fear
a love still new
Young as morning dew
An old memory
Not yet slew
A tiny peice still yearns
A memory burns
A life goes on
The mind returns
To Chicago I say
Disregard with whom I lay
May a memory live
Another day
