Locharron of Scotland is a family run business going back five generations,
with its origins in the picturesque village of Locharron in the Highlands.
The present Chairman, John Morris Buchan can boast of a Royal
Commision given by King George V to his grandfather, John Buchan, to weave a
special tweed suit. Locharron has grown and developed utilising the skills and
traditions passed down from the twelth century Flemish weavers who established
the Scottish Borders wool-textile industry.
Its headquaters is currently (1998) in Galashiels, inheriting the traditions
of Anderson & Co. from the Borders. It is home for most of the 200 workforce.
This site now incorporates weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and tailoring,
along with warehousing and visitor showrooms.
From a range of tartan tie fabrics and a small selection of scarves and head
squares for the local tourist trade, today Locharron of Scotland
has expanded into natural fibre fabrics, Cashmere, Tartans, Tweeds, and Venetians,
Lambswool and Cashmere accessories, scarves, shawls, ties and rugs, complemented
by fully-fashioned and hand-framed knitwear.
The company can confidently claim to be manufacturers of the world's most
comprehensive range of tartans, with around 1350 patters in stock. The diversity of
Locharron of Scotland enables it to present various combinations of
fabric, knitwear and accessories through a variety of international trade
fairs and promotions in London, Paris, Milan, New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

around 1867, Gardiners of Selkirk have successfully dedicated
themselves to the achievement of an enviable reputation for the manufacture
of natural fibre yarn and cloth. The gentle rolling hills of the beautiful

Gardiners of Selkirk offer a distinctive collection of woven fabrics
in pure new wool and blends of wool with silk, linen and other natural fibres

Cashmere is one of the rarest and most precious natural fibres in the world.
Its lightness, its warmth and its caressing touch makes cashmere one of life's
ultimate pleasures. This fibre, of supreme softness, is painstakingly combed
by nomadic tribesman from the wiry mountain goats that thrive in the icy
temperatures that blast the high plateaux of Mongolia and Xinjiang in China.
Its transformation, however, happens halfway around the world in Scotland.
Here, more than a century of wisdom and understanding of this rare natural
fibre is used to turn it into clothing of incomparable appeal and quality.
Hawick Cashmere Company Limited is at the forefront of this
transformation. It was founded by Mr. Jim Thomson, in 1991. Its
origins are in the old Hawick Hosiery Company, which was making high quality
knitwear for over a century. They specialise in cashmere ans cashmere/silk
ladieswear and menswear and is contracted to produce high quality garments
by the major fashion houses of the world. The company received UK export
awards in 1994 and 1995 in recognition of its achievements.
