Playing Ketchup

My Soap-Operatic Life

"Shakespeare once said: Life is pretty stupid, with lots of hubbub to keep you busy, but really not amounting to much . . . I'm paraphrasing, of course." L.A. Story
Yes, I know that's a bad joke. And sorry I haven't done this lately, but I've had a lot going on lately. I'll try to cover the major points in the past week:

Tuesday: I had a meeting with my advisor to ask about what I should be taking. The appointment was scheduled at 5, and she didn't show until 5:40. My God, she's like my mother . . . I was wondering if I could change to a timelier advisor. To make a long story short, I found out that I will not have to take a class that amounts to basketweaving for credit (I'd rather take jewelry later on), since I'm individual majoring. =)

Wednesday: Sub Review: Today's sub was actually good. The wife of Vaguely Cute Guy (real name Dave- oops), Isabel- she could both work the equipment and know the material! Wow!

Thursday: RSVP Call-in #1: I am taking Design Drawing, beginning poetry writing, an English class (I forget what's in it, but it's required), and aerobics (same teacher). I'm going to attempt to get into a science class next pass. I'm also seriously considering applying to get into the advanced writing classes (which I've heard is a bitch to do).

Friday: Sub Review: Today the chairman guy who (supposedly) runs the class now (he's the one that broke the news). And he was actually funny in places- "of course you know that Pluto is really this (shows the dog). But the real question is that if Pluto's a dog, then what's Goofy?" And the good news is that (even though he doesn't want to) they're offering an early final on Mon. night. =)

Weekend: I had to go home to get more money and drop off some stuff. Wound up seeing Demma (thanks for the present, again!), The Truman Show (awesome movie! I'm not going to review it because I was so dumbfounded at its awesomeness . . . JUST GO SEE IT!!!), and the piece de resistance, a concert of Uncle Bruce's. He's in a middle-agers choir (the equivalent of the LHS choir for graduates- if you sing slightly better than me, you get in), and the show actually was pretty good. It was the crowd there I had a problem with.

One of the things I really hate about Liverbore is that it's a fricking small town "where everybody knows your name." Everyone knows who I am and what I am (big nerd). Yay. Anyway, here's the number of people (no names though) I knew that were from LHS:
*A chick from my dance studio (hanging around the sound booth for some reason).
*A (now senior) choir guy I danced with at the last prom (backstage).
*My former drama teacher (husband in choir).
*An ex-boyfriend of some of my friends (sound man).
*A guy I used to hang out with in orchestra (spotlight).

I spent my time there trying to avoid these people, even though I generally like them (well, except my friends' ex- total jerk). Why, you ask (besides "I'm out with my parents on a Saturday night")? Well, except for the orchestra guy and drama teacher (I just didn't know what to say to them), they were all choir people. The Moron is into choir, and for some reason I got all paranoid that "they'd KNOW" what I did to him. Which is pretty stupid since I doubt he sees the senior much, he hates my friends' ex (as does everyone else), and I don't think he knows the dance girl too well. And at any rate I really doubt that he'd tell any of them what I did anyway. What I really fear is running into any of the Bassets crowd (his group of buddies), because they'd be more likely to know. Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to THAT.

Today: Sub Review Today's sub was a Dr. Z (no idea who that is). I got there late due to French oral exams running late (man, that woman was slooooow). So I missed part of what was going on, and wound up having no clue the rest of the time. I wonder if everyone else was that bored and clueless?

The Moondude Report Today Aimee (my TA) said that she'd seen him, and he looked, and I quote, "drunk." Apparently he has a very slow heart, and it started beating too hard while he was swimming. That loosened a blood clot, which went to his neck and caused the stroke. He had a pacemaker put in (Aimee was all, "I got to play with it . . .crank the dials . . . "), and will be in rehab for a few weeks in Sac. And he probably won't be back next year. =(

And one more: Elena and Lisa want to have one more drinking party Wednesday night. This should get interesting . . .
