X

X always marks the spot. That's what they always say. Who's they? It's obviously not doctors, for they usually don't mark spots with X's, but usually with the universal symbol of pink calamine lotion. So, that leaves us with pirates, but pirates are for the most part gone nowadays. A few are here and there, but where does that leave the x?

The X is always on the spot. That's how we know where the spots are? But what spots are these? Leopard spots aren't crossed with an alphabetic character, and neither are the spots you see after being clubbed by a frying pan. Perhaps these spots are nightspots; popular places where the elite hang out. Then what are we searching for?

Obviously, the X is the goal of our search. What is the X? In storybooks, it is treasure: doubloons, jewels, and rum. Sometimes it is oil, or in a Peter Pan like world, it's an actual rock information in the shape of an X. But what if it isn't anything physical? What if the sacred X is a quest for something fantastical or ideal? What if it is love or truth or power? How can X mark the spot?

X always marks the spot. That's what they always say.
