March 27, 1999Good Hurt Life wears at us in many an emotional and mental sense and we don't grow accustomed to this pain. We always feel the hurt. How do we deal with it? We simply embrace the pain through harmful physical activity. This is why we go bungee-jumping, why people leap off cliffs with hang-gliders, why forty year old men play a game of horse. The physical pain we feel is a way to mock the sturm and drang of daily life for we are hurt not by the normal, not the everyday, not the commonplace, but through pleasure of our own choosing. |
