Big Government

Two decades ago, people lost faith in the presidency when Watergate broke. The effects hit the populace hard. Cynicism became the stand-by for that generation; how could they see hope in the office that had been so corrupted? Perhaps this hurt a lot more, for the loss of hope is the greatest loss of all. Parents could not inspire children with the dreams of a brighter future when they were not the same.

I thought with time a new generation would come that could have faith in the possibility of government. The government is there and is rooted; we cannot simply toss it aside except through massive liberative revolution. Unfortunately, the chances for that are as slim as any of today's generation looking up at the presidency with pride.

First came Nixon, then came Clinton. Does anyone give a damn anymore?
