BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
Carl August Krüger and Elizabeth Sophia Gloth Carl August Krüger was born on December 15, 1850 in Czarnikau, Posen, Prussia, now a part of Poland. He was the fifth of nine children of Carl August Krüger and Auguste Priebe.
While still in his teens (and before his bride-to-be was even born), he emigrated to the United States, traveling on the "Senator Iken" from Bremen with two of his older sisters, Auguste and Johanne. The ship's registry identified Carl as a "joiner" from Prussia. The "Senator Iken" arrived in New York City on June 20, 1867.
In the states, Carl "Americanized" his name, becoming known as Charles A. Krueger. He became a distributor of Pabst beer in Erie, Pennsylvania and was active in a local fraternal organization.
Elizabeth Sophia Gloth was born in Erie on November 11, 1869 to Adolph H. Gloth and Louisa Herzog.
Elizabeth, age 20, and Charles, age 38, were married in Erie on November 25, 1889. They had two children, Elda Louise Krueger, born in 1896 and Irwin Carl Krueger, born in 1898.
Charles died on April 20, 1900, less than two years after the birth of his son and eight months before his 50th birthday. He was buried in Erie Cemetery.
Elizabeth never remarried and outlived her husband by almost 42 years, dying in 1942 at age 72. She was also buried in Erie Cemetery.
