Alebrijes
- Originating from Arrazola in Oaxaca, these fantastic
animals are said to be inspired by dreams. Made in either
Copal wood or papier mâché, they are typified by bright,
sometimes fluorescent colours. Their entire bodies are
decorated with intricate designs and dotted patterns.
Although usually mythical in aspect, they are based on
familiar animals with certain distortions or
augmentations.
