Jewels & Gems
©1990
Smile with me, lend an ear
Cut through my disguise
Easy to see, hard to hear
Don't shadow heaven's eyes.

Listen well, I don't say much
The truth with you I'll share
Forgive my yell and words are such
You may incline to stare.

See me crying, break the spell
The well of tears ran dry
God, I'm trying, hard as hell
Just let me learn to fly.

Give me time, see I've grown
There's gold in them there hills
I'll be fine, I'm not alone
Watch me hone my skills.

Tunnels deep, I find no ore
Someone's stripped them clean
Dig my own, I find much more
Than anyone has seen.

Precious jewels, gems abound
A spring of life beneath
Only fools depart without
And I remain to feed.

Leave your tools, in your return
The load you bear is light
What you use, what you learn
Has not been left behind.
