I sink into gritty sand
As the frothy curl of waves
Reaches for my toes
And wonder why I can't cry.
Snowflakes falling all around
Frozen drops on my glasses
Tears that aren't mine.
Not today.
All alone, I face my well
An ocean full of tears
That come so easily for Mother Nature
But not for me. |
Stones and shells wash ashore
Pebble so black I hold tight
Make a wish and throw so far
To cry, only to cry.
Sadness sneaks up on peace
Like the tide before me
Creeps in, then stretches out;
I fight like hell.
Thawing tear behind eyes of blue
Afraid to join snowflakes and sea for fear of frostbite
Returns from whence it came
And I leave for home, where it's warmer,
Still sad.
