Wednesday, September 3, 1997 -- Two Interviews

Kapua kept me up again tonight. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. By 10am this morning I had two interviews, one at 2 and another at 4:30. And Azura had quit her job.

I was somewhat mad that she did that, and somewhat irritated at her reasons. It's her life, but we are starting to move our lives together. I feel like we should discuss these things, and not act precipitously. I've never left a job without notice before, not even the cheesy ones I had at Hardee's and in college.

It not professional.

Of course, I haven't been acting very professional at my current job, so I guess I don't have a lot of room to complain. That's at least in part why I didn't discuss it much with Azura. That and she should have another job in a couple of days. Still, though, it's not something I would do.

The first interview wasn't bad, but I don't want to work there. The HR guy assured me they were advancing their computers, going on to the current new technology. When I talked to the MIS department, I found out they weren't even using SQL yet! Client/Server development? Nope, not exactly. They were hoping to do some Windows programming soon.

I'm not gonna tell them what I think they should be using in their company, but don't tell me you are going for current technology when you are using a database package that's more than 10 years old, and are still writing programs for DOS. I kinda chuckled, and knew I'd never go there to work.

Almost all my experience is with Windows. I've been doing it for 5 years now, and I should stick with that. The other reason I wouldn't go there is it would be a step back technologically, slowing my future down. Of course, they want a long-term employee. I wouldn't be good for them, either.

The second was at a computer/temporary agency. The way they described the job, it's exactly what I want right now. Support, with programming. Relaxed atmosphere, but good pay and benefits. Of course it's with the Great Satan, Microsoft, but I can deal with that, I think.

Azura and I settled down, and watched the Voyager tonight. I enjoyed it. I hadn't seen the season finale, mainly because I'd given up on the show last season. But I figured, with all the hype of the new borg (borgina?) I'd watch it, and see if it was any good.

I like the Borg character 7 of 9. She's got, well, balls. She's tougher than Janeway, anyway. [Ok, that's not saying much.] I guess they accomplished their 'mission'. I'll be watching next week to see what's up.
