Q:Why doesn't Bill Gates get many dates?

A:Because he's MicroSoft.

Our guests had pretty much left early Sunday, so Azura and I relaxed, and got ready for another work week. She's still looking for work, so she was at home Monday.

When I got home, she told me that Microsoft had called. They were ready to do a technical interview. I was pretty thrilled. I'm no supplicant to the Great Satan, but the job sounds interesting, and it sounds like something I'd enjoy doing. Good enough.

So long as Microsoft can take a joke. If they can't I shouldn't even bother.

At least Microsoft isn't as much of a religion as Apple Computers is, and not anywhere near as regimented as IBM. IBM isn't run by geeks, and I don't have a blue suit, anyway.

I spent some time on the MUD tonight, poking around. Lysistrata suggested I write the bus system, so I got started thinking about that.

Sometime last night, I decided I wasn't going in to work, and asked Azura to call in for me. She got up late this morning, and had to rush for an interview, so she didn't. I called in about 11, and told them I was sick.

I was pretty tired--it is one of the sure signs that the job I have is going down the tubes. I'm tired, don't enjoy the work, put it off, and then start taking Mental Health Days.

Azura got the job she interviewed for, and wound up working the rest of the day. I breathed a sigh of relief, because I had over spent this month (expecting her paycheck). Now we have her paycheck again, and things should shape up soon.

I slept most of the day away. Around 5:30 the phone rang (as expected) and it was my work (as wasn't expected). They want me to interview at one of the local banks tomorrow. I wondered if they'd basically forgotten about the St.Louis job, or what, so I agreed.

Just a few minutes after I got off the phone, the MS Technical started. I blew some easy ones, but aced some hard ones. I even got most (all?) of the C questions right. That's an accomplishment for me, because I've never really written C code professionally. Sure, I write it when I'm at home, but that is in no way the same. I never had to write code that someone else would read, or that someone else would use. That's a whole other ballgame.

I think I impressed him, so hopefully Microsoft's Human Resources will get back to me soon.

Just taking it one day at a time...
