Located in the magnificent landscape of Inks Lake Sate Park, this research center is designed to accommodate ten scientists as a field study station for the research of natural habitats around the lower Colorado River area. The buildings sit on a mixed woodland with a prominent rock and a valley behind it. Following the form of the land, the plan and form of the building create a dialogue with its settings. Two wings of buildings are centered around three beautiful elm trees a rock outcrop, which mark the outdoor living court. The living and dining areas are oriented so that they enjoy the most of the fantastic view to the rock. Sleeping quarters for the scientists are designed to accommodate different arrangements. With the intention of controlling the climate by passive methods, the buildings are designed with the ability of dressing differently according to the climate. They are oriented towards south to catch the most of summer breeze and to gain the most of winter sun. |
