I lived for 5 years on Baffin Island and
was always fascinated at the Inuit's wonderfully imaginative way of creating
landmarks in a place that has very little in the way of natural markers (at
least to this person who didn't spend a lot of time on the land to learn to
see the landmarks). I am
also enthralled with the spiritual nature of these structures. I wanted the
perspective to create a feeling of how majestic the inukshuk is - when one is
going somewhere, whether it be to a hunting area or home after a long journey
the inukshuk guides you safely.
