Captain Canuck Unholy War
The official
site for the "West Coast" Captain Canuck.
Captain
Canuck: An American Tribute
A nicely done, well laid out site dedicated to
C.C. from
a fan South of the 49th parallel. Check it out.
There's more Captain Canuck stuff down in some of my links
to sites dedicated to Canadian comics in general.
Doom
Patrol
"The World's Strangest Heroes" -- this site has a
reasonably
comprehensive issue guide/review of the original run (it peters out
shortly
into the triple digits), as well as a less comprehensive one to the
more
recent incarnations -- which is O.K., 'cause from what (little) I've
seen,
the '60s version was pretty funky. Don't let James Robinson and
Dave
Gibbons Gawdawful "homage" to the original series in the 1998 Legends
of the DC Universe 80 Page Giant fool you.
Rome's
Emerald Universe
A cool-looking Green
Lantern
site (by a guy named Rome), focusing principally on Hal Jordan -- the
Silver
Age GL.
The
Shazam Page
A nice site dedicated to the original Captain
Marvel,
including an (incomplete) issue guide to the Power of Shazam
series,
and links to other Marvel Family sites.
Superman
Homepage!
A Superman site neatly broken up into sections on
Supes'
life in movies, radio, etc. Has a reviews section covering the comics and
graphic novels.
The
Unofficial Comics Crossover Index
A nice site listing all those pesky crossover
epics that
comic companies like to indulge in, complete with synopsis, listing of
issues involved, credits, and reviews.
The
Wonder
Woman Pages
A pretty comprehensive site with a section of
(brief)
reviews of Elseworld graphic novels featuring everyone's favourite
Amazon.
However, call me cyber-inept, but I find it a bit hard to navigate this
site. Check out the title page (linked above) first...but, if you can't
find the Elseworlds section, try going directly to The Wonder
Woman Pages nifty Search
Engine.
.
PopCultureShock / Buzzscope
It's Baaaack! Reviews of Comics, Music, Movies, Video Games and Anime
Unca
Cheeks, the Toy Wonder, Silver Age Comics Site
Encyclopedic and extensive look at Marvel, DC and more -- indexed by
characters, with essays. Pretty cool.
The Art of Don Newton
A tribute to the late, great artists of Batman, Shazam, The Phantom and
more.
The TM
Maple Memorial Page
Even fandom has its heroes -- and TM Maple was a familiar letter writer
in the letters pages of comics throughout the '70s and '80s and was
known, not just for his prolificness, but for his thoughtful,
well-reasoned comments. Some of his letters are reproduced on this site.
Manga
and More
A site with a various interests (manga, bowling)
but
also a section of Trade Paperback Reviews.
More or less the comic book site on the
web, with
news bits, on-line polls...and quite possibly the most extensive
collection
of links ever (all neatly indexed).
The
History of Superhero Comics
Pretty much what it says. A good, easily
digestible
site for fans and amateur scholars.
Women
in Refrigerators
Food for thought time: a provocative site that
asks some
of the questions about comic books we've all been thinking, but were
afraid
to articulate -- specifically women characters and their unusually high
mortality rate. Check it out...then ponder.
Leanne Marie Richer's Web Comix with pages
on
various mainstream characters, fan art, commentaries, etc.
The
Great Canadian Guide to the Movies and TV
What it says. Really.
The
Cimmerian Collection
Reviews of the writings of Robert E. Howard --
Conan,
Kullm Solomon Kane, etc.
Kingdom
Kong
A site dedicated to King Kong...especially the
1976 version.
We
Stand on Guard for Thee: Canadian Comic Book Heroes
An unofficial site dedicated to the history of
Canadian
comic books, with info, rare cover scans, and even including a listing
of Canadian comic pros in the U.S. biz (is Marty Pasko really Canadian?
I didn't know that!). It's about time somebody on the web did this.
Mark
Shainblum's
Homepage
The homepage of the creator of Northguard, Fleur
de Lyse,
and Angloman, as well as a being a freelance writer and editor.
Sandy Carruthers
Artist web-page of the guy who's worked on Men in Black, Captain Canuck
and others...including an on-line comic by him, Mark Shainblum and Jeff
Alyward, about a super-heroine...Canadiana!
Scott
Dutton's
Homepage
The homepage of Canadian comic book artist Scott
Dutton
with samples of his pro work, ways to order his independently produced
comic, and a section about the Star Trek episode Assignment: Earth.
Stallion
Canuck / King Led Comics
Tomorrow's super hero superstar? Could be.
Andy's
Comic Book Page
A site with some nice info on Canadian comics
books and
Canadian characters in American comics (in his Marvel and DC sections).
The
Fighting Beavers
What's "internet sim football"? Check out this
site and
find out. Not really comic book related, but this all in fun,
tongue-in-cheek
team uses Canadian comic book icons.
